Safety Advisory Team Leader – Max Term 12 Months – Balcatta Depot

 

Western Power is seeking an experienced safety leader to lead our Safety Advisory team in a 12‑month fixed-term role.

 

This is a hands-on leadership position. You will lead a team of Safety Advisors while working directly with operational leaders and crews to ensure safety is applied in practice and risks are effectively managed in the field.

 

The role is responsible for leading the implementation of the Safety Management System across operational environments, ensuring expectations are clearly understood and consistently applied in day-to-day work. A key focus is partnering with leaders, building capability, and influencing how safety is led and managed across the business.

 

Your Role in Action

 

  • Lead and develop the Safety Advisory & Partnering team, setting clear expectations and maintaining a consistent, high standard of safety partnering
  • Partner with operational leaders and crews to identify risks and implement controls that are practical and effective in the field
  • Coach leaders to build capability and take ownership of safety outcomes within their teams
  • Influence decision making to ensure safety risks are understood, assessed and appropriately managed
  • Lead the implementation of the Safety Management System, ensuring requirements are applied consistently in practice
  • Monitor safety performance and compliance, identifying gaps and ensuring timely and appropriate action
  • Facilitate and participate in incident investigations, ensuring quality analysis and outcomes that address underlying causes
  • Coordinate and contribute to assurance activities, including audits, inspections and field observations, to verify the effectiveness of controls

 

What Makes You a Great Fit

 

  • Essential
    • Degree or Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, and/or a minimum of 7+ years relevant industry experience
    • ICAM qualification
  • Desirable
    • Postgraduate qualification in Health & Safety or Environment
    • Cert IV Frontline Leadership
    • Lead Auditor
  • Strong experience in operational safety within a large or complex organisation
  • Proven experience leading and developing safety professionals
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating incident investigations and managing outcomes
  • Sound judgement and ability to operate effectively in complex operational environments
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across a diverse workforce
  • Strong capability to coach, influence and build effective working relationships with operational leaders
