We have a permanent opportunity for a Specialist Capability Team Leader to lead and empower a team of Technical Trainers and Network Authorisation Specialists who play a vital role in preparing our people to safely and confidently operate across Western Power’s network. In this influential leadership role, you will drive excellence in training and competency-based assessment, ensuring the highest standards of compliance, capability and operational readiness.

Your Role in Action
- Lead and coordinate a team of Technical Trainers and Network Authorisation Specialists, providing direction, coaching and support to achieve safety, quality and operational performance outcomes.
- Oversee the planning, scheduling and delivery of technical training, competency assessments and network authorisations for Western Power’s network workforce.
- Monitor team performance and capability, identifying development opportunities and supporting workforce planning to meet current and future operational requirements.
- Ensure training programs, assessment practices and authorisation processes remain compliant with RTO standards, legislative obligations and enterprise requirements.
- Provide specialist guidance and oversight to ensure training content remains current, operationally relevant and aligned with network standards and procedures.
- Manage training delivery resources, facilities and equipment to optimise utilisation, support effective learning outcomes and meet business priorities.
- Identify and manage training-related risks, ensuring appropriate controls are in place to support safe, reliable network operations.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across the business and industry to enable collaboration, knowledge transfer and continuous improvement in workforce capability.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Demonstrated experience leading, developing and supporting teams in a training, technical or operational environment, with a focus on delivering quality outcomes.
- Experience coordinating training, competency assessment or workforce capability programs within a regulated industry, ideally in an RTO environment.
- Practical knowledge of the Electrical Supply Industry and/or broader energy sector, with an understanding of the operational challenges and safety obligations of a field-based workforce.
- Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across operational, technical and business teams.
- A genuine commitment to safety, inclusion and creating an environment where people can learn, grow and perform at their best.
Qualifications & Technical Requirements
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Current Certificate III in ESI in one of the following specialisations:
- Power Systems – Distribution Overhead
- Power Systems – Distribution Cable Jointing
- Asset Inspection and/or nationally recognised Switching units of competency from the relevant training package.
- Exposure to Switching or Stick, Glove and Barrier operations welcomed
