We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Engineer at Perth Head Office, on a Permanent Full-Time basis.

About this role


As the Senior Engineer, you will be required to apply specialised high-level knowledge in the solution of complex engineering problems as are encountered in the provision of Substation Automation and SCADA as they are incorporated in the delivery of electricity to our customers in a safe, reliable and affordable manner.



  • Providing direction, coaching and training to SCADA Design Engineers, Engineering Technicians and contractors, in all aspects of Automation design.
  • Work closely with the Principal Automation Technician in the delivery of key standards and policies.
  • Developing one’s own skills and technical expertise and accepting coaching where required.
  • Managing one’s own performance and improving personal effectiveness.


  • Provide detailed schedules to aid in the delivery of a given project.


  • To analyse complex issues and to propose cost effective solutions to its resolution.
  • Direct and contribute to the formulation of new technical and engineering processes and practices, propose and evaluate system improvements including the implementation and integration of new technologies into new or existing work practice models.
  • Develop specifications for new hardware and software, prepare and evaluate tender submissions and make recommendations on suitable candidates.
  • To manage risk in the delivery of Automation solutions.
  • Apply the relevant Australian and international standards in design.
  • Ensure compliance to Western Power standards and network technical rules.
  • To convey complex technical problems and potential solutions to a wide audience and the ability to tailor the presentation to an audience of varying technical proficiencies. 
  • To consult with external customers to determine the most cost effective solution for their requirements.
  • To proactively intervene when it is clear that there is a more efficient solution to a problem

About you


We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Degree qualification in Engineering (Electronics / Electrical) recognised by Engineers Australia as satisfying the academic requirements for appointment as a Professional Engineer
  • Will have specialised high-level expertise and knowledge of the following:
  • Current technical developments in the field of SCADA systems, with a substation and distribution automation focus.
  • Data management systems.
  • Relevant standards associated with SCADA system design and drafting.
  • Research and investigation skills.
  • Familiarity in the hardware employed and the nomenclature used with regard to Primary and Secondary systems as utilised in Transmission and Distribution Substations.
  • The ability to write reports and technical specifications for Secondary hardware and software applications. 
  • A Detailed understanding and working knowledge of SCADA system designs, SCADA RTU and Gateway configurations, PLC configuration, HMI configuration, Ethernet switch and router configurations and database systems.
  • The ability to operate in the field for prolonged periods of time in remote locations.
  • Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’
