Principal Environmental Strategy and Policy Advisor – Expression of Interest
Western Power is inviting expressions of interest from exceptional environmental professionals who want to play a defining role in Western Australia’s energy transition.
As we expand and modernise the transmission network to enable a lower-carbon future, we are seeking Principal-level leaders who bring deep expertise in environmental planning, statutory approvals, strategy and policy alongside a genuine commitment to balancing infrastructure delivery with environmental stewardship.
At the Principal level, you will operate as a trusted advisor—setting direction, shaping approvals pathways, and influencing decisions at the highest levels of the organisation and with regulators and key stakeholders.
What you will lead and influence:
- Lead environmental and planning approvals pathways for major transmission and infrastructure programs, ensuring outcomes are robust, timely and aligned to long-term system needs
- Apply strong knowledge of Southwest and Midwest flora and fauna values to inform route selection, site selection, offsets and impact mitigation strategies
- Set the standard for technical quality, risk assessment and assurance across complex statutory and strategic approvals processes
- Build trusted relationships with regulators and key stakeholders to enable pragmatic and enduring approvals outcomes, as well as play a key part in Traditional Owner and community stakeholder engagement
- Embed environmental considerations into multi-criteria decision-making and early project development
- Prepare high-quality briefings, presentations and recommendations that distil complex environmental and approvals issues into clear, strategic advice for senior leaders
- Mentor and uplift teams, building a strong, future-ready environmental and approvals function
This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of environment and infrastructure at a time of unprecedented change where your expertise will directly shape the way Western Australia transitions to a more sustainable energy future.
About you
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Environmental Management, or related discipline
- Environmental, planning and statutory approvals for major infrastructure programs
- Environmental strategy, policy development and governance
- Operating confidently in complex regulatory and stakeholder environments
- Influencing senior decision‑makers and regulators
- Providing technical leadership and mentoring to uplift capability
