Principal Regional Customer Engagement – Permanent Full Time – Perth CBD
Play a pivotal role at the forefront of WA’s energy transition.
As Principal Regional Customer Engagement, you’ll be the primary interface for major customers seeking to connect to Western Power’s transmission network, from large-scale renewable generators to major industrial loads. You’ll build trusted relationships, guide customers through complexity and provide a clear, credible point of contact during a period of rapid grid transformation.
Acting as the subject matter expert and central point for customer communication at a regional project level, this role aligns customer needs with Western Power’s strategic, regulatory, environmental and technical requirements. It provides consistent, transparent communication on major network infrastructure programs, including Clean Energy Link (CEL), and helps convert customer opportunities into compliant, deliverable connection outcomes.
At its core, this role is about influence — bringing together customer needs, technical realities and strategic priorities to shape outcomes that enable decarbonisation and long-term economic growth.
Your Role in Action
- Build deep, trusted relationships with major customers, acting as the key point of contact for customers, guiding them through the Clean Energy Link customer connection process.
- Implement and embed Clean Energy Link customer processes and build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders
- Influence network strategy and investment decisions by translating customer insights into transmission planning, Clean Energy Link (CEL) sequencing and coordinated outcomes across Western Power that strengthen major customer connection capability and support network growth, regional economic development and WA’s clean energy transition.
- Manage risk, governance and decision quality through evidence-based recommendations, escalation and disciplined reporting.
- Engage senior government and industry stakeholders to support coordinated planning, policy alignment and decarbonisation outcomes.
- Communicate across and outside of the organisation and facilitate the sharing of customer regional planning progress with senior government stakeholders.
- Strengthen Western Power’s reputation and social licence through credible engagement with customers, regulators and industry bodies.
- Model collaborative and accountable ways of working that support a high-performing, inclusive and customer-focused culture.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Communications, Business, Project Management or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in a senior customer-facing, commercial, planning or project delivery role, ideally within the energy, infrastructure or utilities sector.
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement, influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and work effectively with senior internal, executive and external stakeholders.
- Advanced communication skills (verbal and written), including the ability to translate complex technical and strategic information into clear, customer-focused messaging, and prepare high-quality briefings for senior audiences.
- Strong interpersonal capability, including active listening, sound judgement and the ability to respond to stakeholder needs with professionalism and empathy.
