Senior Aboriginal Engagement Specialist – Permanent Full Time – Perth CBD
Western Power is delivering the network infrastructure needed to achieve the State Government’s vision to make Western Australia a world-leading renewable energy powerhouse through the Clean Energy Link projects.
The Western Power Social Performance and Approvals Team are seeking a skilled Senior Aboriginal Engagement Specialist to play a critical role in ensuring Clean Energy Link projects are delivered with cultural integrity, respect and genuine collaboration. They will help set the strategic direction of partnerships between Traditional Owner Groups and key stakeholders within Western Power.
Your Role in Action
The role will make significant improvements to the way Western Power work with Traditional Owners on whose land projects will be developed. This role will play an important part in building long-term enduring positive relationships with Traditional Owners, developing creative solutions to benefit communities and support project development.
The role reports to the Social Performance Team Leader. In this role you will:

Build strong partnerships and trust with Traditional Owners and representative bodies

Develop an engagement framework for the projects and plan to deliver on commitments and opportunities for Traditional Owners

Implement Traditional Owner partnership strategies and implementation plans

Facilitate engagement across Traditional Owner Groups, including attending meetings, site visits and on Country engagements

Interface with and support project teams in requiring Traditional Owner input and interactions, including briefing leadership on engagement requirements, stakeholder risk, issues management and emerging sentiment

Assist with agreement modernisation

Support accurate tracking and record keeping of engagement activities, actions and outcomes

Relevant experience and/or qualification in community engagement, Aboriginal studies, social sciences or related field.

Minimum 8+ years’ experience in engagement with Aboriginal stakeholders, communities or organisations, with strong cultural competence and understanding of cultural protocols.

Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, including project management, compliance, risk management, record‑keeping and reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Excellent people, teamwork and communication skills.

Beneficial if you hold knowledge of cultural heritage, approvals and environment.
