Senior Assessment & Approvals Specialist – Permanent Full time – Perth CBD
Play a key role in shaping the future of Western Australia’s energy network. In this role, you’ll lead and support strategic planning by navigating complex environmental and statutory approvals, partnering with internal teams and external stakeholders to unlock critical infrastructure projects and enable sustainable network growth.

Your Role in Action
- Influence the development of strategic network plans, asset strategies, network design standards and work programs - ensuring environmental and regulatory requirements are embedded early and risks are reduced to as low as reasonably practicable.
- Provide subject matter expertise in environmental approvals to internal stakeholders across the business.
- Manage environmental assessments and regulatory approvals processes in accordance with State and Commonwealth laws and corporate policies.
- Support the business to assess and influence changes to regulatory or external stakeholder requirements, and their impact on network planning, development and delivery.
- Lead and support the development and implementation of environmental and regulatory frameworks, requirements and processes that govern access to and interaction with the network for construction, maintenance and inspection activities.
- Support the Joint Planning Teams in the preparation of long-term network strategies and development plans, ensuring early identification and integration of environmental requirements.
- Influence the development and prioritisation of near-term work programs, ensuring appropriate consideration of environmental and regulatory requirements, including alignment to external commitments and approvals.
- Support the business to ensure environmental and regulatory considerations are embedded in integrated impact assessments and reflected in network development planning.
- Identify and assess the cost and delivery implications of environmental and regulatory requirements, supporting informed decision-making across asset strategies and development plans.
- Develop and manage relationships with external stakeholders (including regulators, planning authorities and infrastructure bodies) to support appropriate siting and development of network assets.
- Monitor and drive continuous improvement of environmental and regulatory requirements, frameworks and processes, supporting a closed-loop feedback approach.
- Represent the function in internal and external engagement forums, including with regulators, industry bodies and community stakeholders.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, science, urban and regional planning, law or related discipline
- Extensive experience in environment approvals.
- Experience in Public and environmental safety matters and the development of risk reducing performance improvement strategies.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and written skills.
- Proven ability to influence key internal and external stakeholders in relation to environmental outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience with community engagement.
- Experience in delivering large complex business wide improvement strategies.
- A sound understanding of the regulations and arrangements associated with infrastructure planning, land development, environmental assessments, and heritage and land access.
