Senior Estimator – Permanent Full Time – Perth CBD
In this role, you will apply your senior‑level estimating expertise to lead complex, high‑value cost estimates, provide authoritative commercial and technical advice, and influence investment decisions across major capital and volumetric programs.
This position offers a unique opportunity to play a critical role in Western Power’s Clean Energy Link initiatives, supporting the delivery of large‑scale infrastructure that enables the transition to a more reliable, affordable and sustainable energy network for Western Australia. Your work will directly shape how clean energy projects are scoped, funded and delivered, placing you at the centre of one of the most significant transformation programs in the business.
Your Role in Action
- Contribute to and support scoping of Clean Energy Link, capital program, project investments and customer‑funded work to reflect accurate estimates of scope and cost
- Provide high‑level technical input to Planning Phase Estimation, including for Clean Energy Link and other major capital projects
- Provide high‑level technical support in the coordination of estimating activities for Clean Energy Link, capital works and volumetric programs in the planning phase as necessary
- Take ownership for quality output and assist in the development of continuous improvement initiatives within the team
- Carry out complex / high‑priority project estimations (non‑standard “bottom‑up”)
- Develop and update estimating methodologies, processes and systems
- Achieve business goals in alignment with best‑practice workforce principles by providing effective and efficient outputs
- Update and publish the estimating rates catalogue and communicate changes
- Utilise current labour and fleet rates, including contractor and vendor rates
- Support the development of team members through mentoring and coaching, improving performance outcomes within the Estimation team
- Provide advice on design, construction and commissioning issues to assist others in the development of project scope definitions (for both internal and external work)
- Perform industry benchmarking and provide guidance to the business around external market state
- Drive process improvement by ensuring work is captured and stored for future use, reducing functional silos and maintaining alignment with internal interfaces
- Translate complex technical information into clear, business‑focused insights and provide stakeholders with concise, actionable recommendations
- Develop and maintain project estimating plans and basis of estimates
- Conduct estimate development, reviews and validate alignment in accordance with AACE International Class of Estimate
- Present and coordinate smooth handover of deliverables to key stakeholders and downstream functions to enable informed decision‑making
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Trade qualification with extensive practical work experience in an estimation discipline
- 10 + years extensive and demonstrated experience in an estimating position
- Skilled in engaging stakeholders to reinforce estimating and governance processes, offering constructive challenge to align expectations and support effective outcomes
- Considerable knowledge of estimating practices, procedures and tools
- Extensive experience working with deadlines and tight timeframes to work independently to collate information and produce an estimate to the required standard of accuracy
- Considerable knowledge of risk assessment and management practices, procedures and tools
- Experience in mentoring, coaching and development
- Sound understanding of the interactions of related disciplines in an electrical utility context, including transmission and distribution systems, environment and other stakeholder issues
- General knowledge of project and contract management practices and tools
- Proficiency in appropriate computer systems and applications
