Join Western Power’s Customer Portfolio Development Team, where you will play a critical role in the preinvestment development of large, complex customerinitiated projects. This includes connection proposals, transmission line relocations and major network reinforcements that influence the longterm performance, reliability and decarbonisation of Western Australia’s electricity grid.
This is a senior engineering position for those who enjoy solving complex planning problems, integrating commercial, technical and regulatory considerations, and shaping highvalue investment decisions before they progress into delivery.
Your Role in Action
Operating within the Major Customer environment, the Customer Portfolio Development team partners with largescale customers to align commercial, technical and regulatory needs with WA’s energy transformation. We develop tailored solutions for complex grid connections and line relocations, shaping the investments that proceed to delivery.
As a Senior Project Development Engineer, you will apply your engineering judgement to lead scoping and technical decisionframing, working with specialist engineering teams who set the technical direction and integrating their inputs to deliver robust, commercially defensible and compliant solutions.

Lead engineering activities in the planning and options analysis phases, ensuring rigor in assumptions, methodologies and evaluation.

Frame, plan and lead Joint Planning Teams, guiding technical assessment and establishing the engineering basis for investment decisions.

Produce clear, concise and defensible business cases inputs, including engineering analysis, risks, feasible options and capital budget estimates.

Assess technical solutions to complex planning problems and shape the recommended option based on performance, cost, risk and regulatory constraints.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, navigating differing priorities and influencing outcomes constructively.

Ensure engineering integrity across commercial considerations, risk implications, and network performance requirements.

Maintain responsibility for the accuracy of capital budget requirements for complex projects.

Appropriately escalate issues and ensure systems reflect accurate project status, financials and customer information.

Provide mentoring to graduate engineers and support innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
What Makes You a Great Fit

Degree Qualification in Engineering
-
Extensive engineering experience in the planning, design, operation or maintenance of transmission and/or distribution networks.

Strong capability in evaluating technical options, applying economic and financial assessment techniques, and shaping investment considerations.

Project management skills with understanding of PMBOK-aligned methodologies to drive structured planning, risk management, and on-time delivery across complex, multi-stakeholder groups.

Demonstrated ability to handle complex issues where no single solution exists—applying broad, balanced engineering judgement.

Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with the ability to produce clear, decisionready documentation.

Proven ability to work with challenging stakeholders, address pushback constructively, and influence outcomes across multidisciplinary teams.
