Accountant – Perth CBD - 12 month maximum term 

 

Are you a finance professional with a knack for supporting the business in financial reporting? Join Western Power as an Accountant, where you’ll support Western Power to deliver external financial reporting including statutory, regulatory, shareholder reporting and other ad hoc reporting as required.

 

This 12-month maximum-term position supports the accurate accounting of financial and physical assets by maintaining the fixed asset register, supporting capitalisation, disposals, impairment assessments, and reconciliations.

 

Your Role in Action

 

As an Accountant, you will be performing:

  • General Ledger reconciliations and processing of journals for month-end and year-end purposes.
  • Maintaining the Fixed Asset Register, ensuring timely and accurate processing of asset additions, capitalisations, disposals, revaluations, and transfers in accordance with Western Power’s Capitalisation Standard and AASBs.
  • Preparing and processing journals for asset-related transactions including project capitalisation, impairment charges, and asset retirement obligations.
  • Preparing the monthly reconciliation of fixed asset and WIP accounts, ensuring any reconciling items are identified, investigated, and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Supporting the impairment review and useful life assessment process through data preparation and initial analysis, working alongside the Financial Accountant.
  • Collaborating with project delivery teams to ensure timely project closures and the accurate classification of project costs.
  • Reviewing and validating asset creation requests and liaise with the business to ensure appropriate treatment of capital expenditure and compliance with capitalisation criteria.

 

What Makes You a Great Fit

 

  • Tertiary qualification in accounting or finance, with commensurate industry experience.
  • 3-5 years previous experience in an accounting capacity.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals and principles of accounting.
  • Intermediate skills in Excel and Work and/or other accounting software.
