Category & Contract Specialist – Perth CBD - Permanent

 

Join us as a Category & Contract Specialist to manage the contract development of all services, materials and goods contracts and increasing value, by improving service, quality, compliance and safety outcomes whilst reducing risk and costs across Western Power portfolio of contracts.

 

Your Role in Action 

 

  • Demonstrated ability to develop fit-for-purpose category strategies and procurement templates that enable effective, compliant, and value-driven purchasing across the business.
  • Proven experience managing contracts, ensuring spend remains within approved values, and applying timely interventions where variances or risks are identified.
  • Strong capability to engage regularly with internal stakeholders and suppliers to understand business needs, prioritise procurement activities, and agree on clear actions and timelines.
  • Ability to effectively manage supplier relationships, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives, contractual obligations, and desired commercial outcomes.
  • Skilled in balancing commercial, operational, and compliance considerations to support sustainable procurement decisions.
  • Contract development, supplier performance and price management to achieve the best commercial outcome for Western Power.
  • Contract negotiations with materials, services and goods supplier on behalf of the business to achieve the best commercial outcome for Western Power
  • Ensure that the contract management framework is applied consistently and effectively relevant to their portfolio and stakeholders
  • Extract the intended value over the life of the contract and support compliance and adherence to existing contracts. This includes continuous improvement and efficiency improvements.
  • Data management of category and contract related performance e-procurement tools and systems
  • Support commerciality and governance for contracts within Western Power and external suppliers (including spend management, uncontracted spend, compliance to policies and guidelines)
  • Forecasting of supply capability, demand of services, goods and materials for Western Power
  • Development of supply chain strategy for the relevant portfolio

 

What Makes You a Great Fit

 

  • Experience in developing and executing contracts for goods and services and/or materials
  • Skilled in establishing and managing supplier relationships to generate value beyond the contract
  • Strong influencing, communication and interpersonal skills
  • An understanding of risk and compliance management and its application with respect to procurement
  • Demonstrated good negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Strong contract development and management skills
  • Knowledge and experience in a procurement role undertaking contract development or contract management within construction, maintenance, logistics or materials
  • Knowledge and experience in Contract Law, Construction Law, Australian Consumer Law and related legislation and regulations
  • Good understanding of Australian Standard suite of contracts (including construction and supply, delivery and installation of equipment of goods) and general services type agreements.
