Commercial DER Technical Support Officer – Perth CBD – Permanent or 12 month Maximum Term

 

This role serves as the primary liaison between applicants and internal engineering teams for Commercial DER projects (30 kVA – 1 MVA), ensuring effective communication and smooth progression throughout the project lifecycle. It also involves providing specialist technical assessments and guidance to support applicants and enable timely approvals. The role requires strong technical knowledge to assess Commercial DER projects and assist applicants throughout the application process, while collaborating closely with internal engineering teams.

 

Your Role in Action  

 

  • Serve as the primary interface for Commercial DER projects (30 kVA – 1 MVA) from enquiry through to approval to operate, acting as the key point of contact between applicants and Western Power internal engineers.
  • Provide technical support and guidance throughout the application process, managing enquiries and resolving issues, including escalated or complex matters, ensuring all matters are finalised.
  • Manage complex DER enquiries where defined business processes may not exist, with guidance from the Commercial DER Team Leader.
  • Validate customer submissions, perform technical assessments prior to referring for engineer assessment, and review and validate engineering responses before providing advice to applicants.
  • Ensure compliance with all Western Power requirements prior to issuing Approvals to Operate.
  • Provide responsive customer support and manage enquiries, delivering accurate information on products, services, and project progress
  • Undertake general and specialised DER project activities, including project analysis, financial administration, proactive follow-up to progress or deactivate projects, and other duties to facilitate on-time project delivery.
  • Build and leverage strong internal relationships to support the business in meeting customer needs while delivering consistently positive customer outcomes and experience.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance internal processes and customer experience.

 

 What Makes You a Great Fit

 

  • WA Certificate of Education / Completion of year 12 with English and Mathematics.
  • Experience working with Commercial Solar Projects.
  • Prior experience with demonstrable, effective administrative, organisational, prioritising, planning, and coordinating skills preferably within a project, planning environment, preferably within a DER related field or related area.
  • Advanced proficiency in digital systems and technology - MS Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and internet browser (Internet Explorer) or equivalent.
  • Strong customer service experience, including experience dealing with complex customer queries in a high volume and complex environment.
  • Strong customer focus, stakeholder management, influencing, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated technical understanding of small-scale DER applications and processes and sound working knowledge of relevant technical standards, such as WASIR, Basic EG Requirements.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated experience drafting succinct correspondence to customers.
  • Ability to convey complex material and reasoning both verbally and in written form, to internal and external Stakeholders.
