Commercial Procurement Contract Team Lead - Major Projects

Join us as an experienced and proactive Commercial Procurement Contract Team Leader based in the CBD in this permanent fulltime opportunity. You will be responsible for leading and developing a team of professionals responsible for major construction project contracts of significant value, complexity and reputational impact.
Your Role in Action
- Accountable for ensuring full compliance to, and consistent application of, Western Power’s Procurement Policy, Standards, and the Contract Management Framework.
- Responsible for the management of a team of professionals performing the role of Senior Category and/or Sourcing Specialists within Western Power, ensuring they are accountable for procurement deliverables.
- Ensure compliance to governance obligations under DFA (Delegated Financial Approval), AED and Section 103.
- Responsible for compliance to government policies initiatives impacting procurement.
- Accountable for compliance to safety, governance, conduct, technical, asset management, and insurance requirements in delivering contracts.
- Provide clear technical advice, expertise, and direction to the team.
- Responsible for ensuring a consistent approach to category and sourcing delivery processes and procedures including the use of systems, tools, and templates within the team.
- Build a mindset of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
- Implement, monitor, and report on the effectiveness of business processes and systems.
- Apply reporting mechanisms to monitor delivery and performance for the team.
- Participate in team management meetings where progress against key performance indicators is monitored and discussed and report on.
- Coach and develop direct reports to ensure they are developing to their full potential and mentor them in key people procedures (safety, human resources etc.)
- Implement business initiatives, procedures, and processes within the team.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- A seasoned professional with extensive technical experience in complex construction procurement category and sourcing management including strong negotiation skills, excellent business acumen and proven commercial and contractual risk management and analysis skills.
- Extensive construction contract and commercial experience of at least 5 years.
- A thorough knowledge of the external contracting market and contract governance and probity.
- Strong leadership, influencing, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong commercial acumen and analytical knowledge and experience.
- Ability to lead through pressure, ambiguity and change and to adapt to and manage different situations.
- Interaction with others is primarily concerned with influencing, developing, and motivating people and driving positive, constructive behaviour.
- Knowledge and experience in contract law, construction law and related legislation and regulations.
- Demonstrated strong negotiation skills on high value transactions.
- A demonstrated understanding of the regulatory framework in which a Utility operates and the link between business decisions and their impact on regulatory outcomes (desirable)
