Connections Manager - Distributed Energy Resources (DER)  |  Permanent Full-time  |  Perth CBD

 

Western Power’s DER Connections Manager drives innovation and strategic direction to both small and commercial Distributed Energy Resource (DER) teams in all areas of operation including but not limited to the end-to-end processes, resourcing, compliance, regulation and policy.

 

This role will lead cross-functional teams, contribute DER insights to stakeholder working groups and provide high level strategic guidance on the scoping of business readiness for future DER products across both small and commercial sized systems. 

 

The DER Connections Manager is accountable for processing the growth of customer applications for all small-scale Distributed Energy Resources (DER) connections including but not limited to renewable energy systems, battery energy storage and the continuous improvement of associated products and processes within agreed KPIs. There has been a significant increase in applications flowing from the announcement of the State Governments Battery Rebate Scheme in July 2025.

 

This position is also responsible for managing the delivery of Commercial DER, including operational and process improvements to ensure desirable customer outcomes for the growing number of commercial applications.

 

The area also supports the 24/7 customer service centre, particularly during outage events.

 

Your Role in Action

 

  • Lead and mentor multidisciplinary application teams in delivering energy-related solutions and platforms.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement across DER functions.
  • Represent the DER Connections area and wider business in external stakeholder working groups focused on process improvement across both small scale and commercial products, compliance and market evolution.
  • Collaborate with government agencies to shape energy policy and innovation pathways.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to executive leadership on DER connections, WA Residential Battery Rebate Scheme and risk mitigation for DER processes.
  • Ensure alignment between application capabilities and strategic energy objectives.

 

What Makes You a Great Fit

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a project management, commercial or business discipline or a relevant Electricity (network) qualification
  • A broad and or deep knowledge within a Customer Service environment or related area
  • Demonstrated ability to support and implement customer service strategies with specific knowledge of customer service principles and practices
  • Strong leadership, influencing, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong experience in Complex negotiations
