Data Engineering & Platforms Team Leader

Location:

Perth Office - CBD, WA, AU

13 Jul 2026

We are seeking a high-calibre Data Team Lead to guide our engineering team through a major enterprise data transformation. This role sits at the heart of our data strategy, bridging legacy enterprise systems—including Oracle and Informatica Powercenter—with our modern cloud analytics environment built on Snowflake and dbt.

As Western Power transitions toward a federated, domain-driven architecture and operating model, you will lead the team through this structural and cultural shift. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader who has successfully managed data teams through large-scale cloud transformations within complex enterprise environments. While you possess the deep technical literacy required to roll up your sleeves and get involved in delivery when needed, your primary focus will be managing the end-to-end data delivery lifecycle, navigating organisational complexity, and driving the adoption of modern DataOps practices under this new federated model.

Your Role in Action

Transformational Leadership & Delivery

  • Team Leadership & Change Management: Lead, mentor, and stable-manage a team of data engineers through a significant platform and operational transformation, fostering a culture of agility, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
  • End-to-End Data Delivery: Take full ownership of the data delivery lifecycle—collaborating across design/architecture, ensuring robust data governance, and driving execution to meet business timelines.
  • Navigating Enterprise Complexity: Successfully operate within a complex application and stakeholder landscape, effectively managing dependencies, mitigating risks, and unblocking the team.
  • DataOps Evolution: Drive the transition from the existing data eco system to future, managed analytics engineering and automated orchestrations.

Architecture, Governance & Observability

  • Solution Oversight: Partner with architects to ensure data integrations between Oracle, SAP, and Snowflake are robust, scalable, and meet enterprise governance standards.
  • Data Governance & Discovery: Drive the adoption and maturity of our Alation data catalogue, ensuring clear data lineage from source to dashboard and robust stewardship across the platform.
  • Data Reliability: Champion the implementation of data observability frameworks to monitor pipeline health, freshness, and schema drift, ensuring absolute business confidence in the data.

Technical & Landscape Literacy

As the Team Lead you must understand the landscape deeply enough to guide delivery, run code reviews, and make informed architectural trade-offs:

  • Modern Cloud Stack: Deep understanding of Snowflake (performance, security) and dbt (macros, snapshots, state-based deployments) for modern analytics engineering.
  • Enterprise Integration & Ingestion: Familiarity with real-time Change Data Capture (CDC) via Oracle GoldenGate, enterprise integration patterns using Informatica IICS / SAP Integration Suite, and automated SaaS ingestion.
  • Data Modeling & Architecture: Solid understanding of enterprise data modelling paradigms (Data Vault, Star Schema) and the CAP theorem.
  • Data Governance & Orchestration: Practical exposure to data cataloging/governance platforms (Alation) and code-based orchestration.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Experience: Demonstrated experience Data Engineering or Data Delivery, with a proven track record of managing and leading data teams through a major enterprise platform transformation.
  • Enterprise Context: Demonstrated experience navigating complex, highly regulated environments (e.g., large Australian enterprises or government organisations) with rigid change control and diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Lifecycle Mastery: Strong expertise across the entire data lifecycle: from architectural design and data governance compliance to hand-on delivery and production support.
  • Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders, articulate the value of the data transformation, and clarify complex technical trade-offs.
  • Certifications: relevant technical credentials (e.g., Snowflake SnowPro, dbt Analytics Engineer, cloud architecture) are highly regarded.
