Engineering Team Leader (Distribution Projects) – Permanent Full Time – Perth CBD

Lead the delivery of practical network solutions that keep WA connected.

We’re looking for an Engineering Team Leader to lead the team responsible for turning strategy into action – delivering fit-for-purpose network planning solutions to meet short to medium-term demand across Western Power’s transmission and distribution systems.

This role focuses on applying concept-level strategies and planning frameworks to real-world challenges, ensuring timely, technically sound, and economically viable solutions are developed and ready for investment. Your leadership will ensure our network meets future needs while maintaining high levels of reliability, safety, and compliance.

Your Role in Action  

• Translate strategic plans into technically and economically viable network solutions.
• Lead the development of cost-benefit planning reports and studies
• Participate in Joint Planning Teams driven by the project sponsor and provide a technical network planning function into the options analysis and scope development.
• Deliver timely, accessible and accurate planning advice to key stakeholders.
• Effectively lead and manage the distribution planning teams.
• Identify and articulate the business risk of not proceeding with projects and the benefits to Western Power and the community that can be achieved by carrying out the augmentation.
• Ensures alignment between technical needs and economic and regulatory requirements.
• Develop concept solutions (network and non-network) to resolve the constraint in a timely and economically manner.
• Provide an operational planning service to ensure mitigation strategies are in place for peak periods, as well as providing technical advice to System Management & Network Operations in areas of network limitations and settings.

What Makes You a Great Fit 

• Degree qualification in Engineering (Electrical)
• Eligibility to CPEng status by Engineers Australia
• Highly developed written, verbal and presentation communications skills
• Extensive understanding of network utility regulation and the requirements this places on justification and development of transmission & distribution projects
• Proven track record of effective management and leadership of high profile planning teams
• Proven track record of delivering robust transmission/distribution plans and project justifications
• Knowledge of regulatory process, arrangements and legislation, as well as Market and Technical rules.
