Engineering Team Leader - Design Delivery  |  Perth CBD  |  12 month fixed term contract

 

Join our Substation Design team and play a key role in shaping the future of Western Australia's electricity network. As the Engineering Team Leader, you'll lead a team of engineering professionals responsible for delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective substation designs, technical standards and engineering solutions that underpin the development and operation of our network.

 

This is an opportunity to combine technical leadership with people leadership, guiding a multidisciplinary team across primary, secondary and civil/structural engineering disciplines while influencing the technical direction of critical infrastructure projects. You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business to drive engineering excellence, standardisation and innovative design outcomes that support Western Power's energy transition.

 

Your Role in Action  

 

Design Leadership & Delivery Management

  • Lead the planning, scoping, scheduling, coordination and delivery of allocated design programs and projects.
  • Manage and oversee the delivery of engineering designs undertaken by external design partners, ensuring outputs meet safety, quality, cost, schedule and business requirements.
  • Provide technical direction and design leadership across primary, secondary, civil/structural and customer connection disciplines.

Contract & Vendor Management

  • Lead the management of outsourced design services and engineering delivery partners.
  • Monitor consultant performance, utilisation, workload allocation, quality, responsiveness and contractual obligations.
  • Ensure effective coordination between internal stakeholders, delivery partners and project teams to achieve project outcomes.

Engineering Governance & Assurance

  • Provide engineering assurance and technical oversight for all designs delivered by internal and external resources.
  • Manage and maintain relevant specifications, standards, manuals and engineering systems within the responsible area.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of standard designs, templates, engineering guides and specifications.

Quality, Risk & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish and maintain quality assurance and feedback systems to drive continuous improvement.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate engineering, delivery and commercial risks.
  • Support optimisation of capital expenditure through efficient engineering design and delivery practices.

People Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead, coach and develop Design Leads, Lead Designers and Drafters to build sustainable technical capability.
  • Manage employee performance, wellbeing and development through established systems and processes.
  • Foster a culture of safety, collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.

 

What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Degree in Engineering, eligible for corporate membership of the institution of Engineers Australia
  • In-depth knowledge and extensive experience of policies, procedures, standards and regulations related to substation design
  • Good knowledge of design management and project management
  • Skills and capability in front-line management, work management, design coordination and ability to schedule tasks and resources to meet project requirements
  • Understanding risk management and its application within business
  • In-depth knowledge and extensive experience of policies, procedures, standards and regulations related to substation design
  • Good knowledge of Substation Design
