Engineering Team Leader – Permanent Full Time – Perth CBD

 

Lead a specialist team responsible for long‑term network strategy standards, and high‑level technical direction. This role plays a key part in shaping Western Power’s future, operating in a complex environment with competing priorities and uncertainty. Ideal for a hands‑on, technically strong leader with strategic planning experience in utilities or large enterprises, strong stakeholder skills, and the ability to guide teams through ambiguity to deliver outcomes.

 

Your Role in Action  

· 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing team of transmission planning engineers.
  • Perform forecast & network requirements.
  • Develop the business plan.
  • Provide technical leadership on transmission planning standards, methodologies, and strategic frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain a detailed short to medium term (up to 10 years) Transmission System Plan in line with the Network Management Plan considering both Asset and Growth drivers.
  • Ensure planning studies comply with regulatory obligations, internal standards, and industry best practice.
  • Deliver timely, accessible and accurate long term planning advice to key stakeholders (internal and external).
  • Develop Network strategies to ensure consistency with long term development plans and the network investment strategy.
  • Effectively lead and manage the transmission standards and strategy planning teams.
  • Ensures alignment between technical needs and economic and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in planning tools, processes, and analytical capability.

 

 What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Degree qualification in Engineering (Electrical)
  • Eligibility to CPEng status by Engineers Australia
  • Highly developed written, verbal and presentation communication skills
  • Extensive understanding of network utility regulation and the requirements this places on justification and development of transmission & distribution projects.
  • Proven track record of effective management and leadership of planning teams
  • Proven track record of delivering robust transmission/distribution plans and project justifications
  • Knowledge of regulatory process, arrangements and legislation, as well as Market and technical rules.
  • Valid WA Driver’s license Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’.
