Internal Audit Manager

As our Internal Audit Manager and the nominated Chief Audit Executive as per IIA Global Standards you’ll play a critical role in safeguarding organisational integrity and strengthening trust across the communities we serve. With end-to-end ownership of our internal audit area, you’ll deliver independent, risk-based assurance and insight that enhances governance, ensures compliance, and enables Western Power to achieve meaningful outcomes for the WA community.
Your Role in Action
- Provide independent, objective risk assurance and audit leadership that strengthens governance, enhances performance, and protects organisational value for Western Power.
- Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships with the Western Power Board, Executive and Senior Leadership to support a high performing internal audit area.
- Lead and sustain a high-performing internal audit, underpinned by a fit-for-purpose delivery model and strong, trusted relationships across the organisation and with external partners.
- Own the end-to-end internal audit lifecycle, including developing, securing Board approval for, and delivering the Annual Internal Audit Plan in line with the Board-approved Internal Audit Charter, on time and within budget.
- Deliver authoritative, independent and confidential advice to senior leaders, enabling effective policy implementation, complex projects, and transformational change.
- Fulfil the role of Public Interest Disclosure Officer by ensuring integrity, transparency, and accountability are upheld, and undertaking any required forensic investigations.
- Support and contribute to organisation-wide Line 2 assurance activities, providing insight into critical risks, control effectiveness, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Actively participate in senior leadership and governance forums, contributing strategic insight that influences decision-making and supports the achievement of organisational objectives.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Significant experience and demonstrated expertise in internal audit, risk assurance, and governance, with a strong understanding of how these disciplines are applied within an integrated business assurance framework.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, underpinned by sound judgement, professionalism, and the highest standards of integrity.
- Proven ability to deliver clear, credible and influential risk assurance advice to senior executives and Board Directors within complex and dynamic environments.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and present confidently to diverse stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated experience building and managing effective relationships with key stakeholders, including senior management and Board Directors.
- Advanced capability in the use of audit, risk and quality management systems, testing tools and related technologies to identify issues, track actions, and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. Institute of Internal Auditors, Institute of Risk Management, Chartered Insurance Institute, CPA Australia or equivalent).
