Land Use Planning Specialist – Perth CBD – Permanent Full Time

Join Western Power and play a key role in shaping the future of Western Australia's energy network through strategic land use planning. Working with local government, planning authorities, developers and internal stakeholders, you'll help ensure current and future electricity network requirements are considered in planning and development decisions, supporting network growth while safeguarding critical infrastructure.

Your Role in Action  

• Review and assess planning schemes, strategies, structure plans, development proposals and policies to identify potential impacts on Western Power's network and assets.
• Prepare strategic planning referral responses and provide expert planning advice to local government authorities, planning agencies, developers and other stakeholders.
• Coordinate input from technical specialists across Western Power to deliver comprehensive and timely planning advice.
• Support the alignment of network development and expansion plans with Western Australia's land use planning framework.
• Build strong relationships with planning authorities, government agencies, developers and industry stakeholders to facilitate positive project outcomes.
• Contribute to strategic land acquisition activities that support current and future network infrastructure requirements.
• Monitor planning referrals and proactively address issues, risks or delays that may impact network projects and asset protection.
• Support the continuous improvement of Western Power's strategic planning referral processes and capabilities.
• Assist in developing internal knowledge and awareness of land use planning processes and network planning requirements.

 What Makes You a Great Fit 

• Tertiary qualification: A Degree in Urban Planning or related field
• Experience in statutory and strategic planning approvals, planning referral processes and planning regulations.
• Demonstrated experience engaging with local government, state government agencies, planning authorities, developers or consulting stakeholders on planning matters.
• Strong ability to review and analyse planning schemes, structure plans, strategies, policies and development proposals.
• Excellent written communication skills, with experience preparing reports, submissions, planning assessments and stakeholder correspondence.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and influencing skills.
• Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability, with the ability to identify risks, conflicts and practical solutions.

Highly Regarded

• Experience within local government, state government planning agencies, planning consultancies, infrastructure organisations or utilities.
• Knowledge of utility infrastructure planning, land acquisition or the energy sector.
• Exposure to major infrastructure projects and government approval processes.
