Managing Counsel - Permanent Full-Time - Perth CBD 

 

Western Power is seeking an experienced and strategic Managing Counsel to join our senior leadership team. This pivotal role is responsible for leading and providing guidance to our Legal, Integrity, and Property Conveyancing teams while offering high-level technical legal advice across a range of disciplines. The successful candidate will play a critical role in managing complex legal matters, minimising legal risk, and protecting the company’s reputation.

As Managing Counsel, you will work closely with the General Counsel and the Executive Manager for Legal, Governance, and External Relations, ensuring that Western Power remains compliant with all legal frameworks, while also supporting the General Counsel in their broader executive responsibilities.

 

This is a fulltime permanent opportunity based at our Perth Office.

 

Your Role in Action  

 

  • Accountable for providing proactive, in-depth, legal, business-focused advice, as well as implementing initiatives and processes to set standards and reinforce a culture of integrity, quality, ethical behaviour, and responsibility across the business.
  • Accountable for analysing and identifying the legal risks and implications of all the business's transactions, keeping the senior management in all business functions informed of developments in laws and regulations that potentially affect the business.
  • Responsible for providing the processes and frameworks to ensure allegations of fraud or corruption are reported and investigated in accordance with requirements to maintain integrity across the business.
  • Actively provides material legal and integrity updates to the General Counsel to support the General Counsel’s Executive responsibilities.
  • Work collaboratively with senior leadership and key stakeholders across the business in overseeing and ensuring legal compliance across the business, maintaining the business’s integrity both internally and externally (reputational risk).
  • Accountable for the planning, budgeting, and reporting processes, and financial management of costs for the function.
  • Provides oversight for Western Power’s conveyancing and business integrity activities.

 

 What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Must hold a law degree and a legal practicing certificate that entitles legal practice in WA.
  • A broad and or deep knowledge and expertise within an internal legal environment.
  • Proven understanding of laws applicable to a large corporate and complex environment.
  • Proven ability to successfully deliver key legal advice and guidance to manage change in a complex and diverse environment.
  • Exceptional organisation and time management abilities to manage several priorities.
  • Strong leadership, influencing, communication and interpersonal skills to relate to all levels of an organisation (Board to frontline).
  • Ability to identify and remedy complex legal issues.
  • Exceptionally good problem-solving skills.
