Operations Engineer – Permanent Full Time – Perth CBD

Your Role in Action
- Use knowledge and experience to assess and manage outage requests, provide operational impact reports, risk assessment reports to ensure the SWIS is operated safely and securely in line with Western Power policies and procedures
- Proactively engage and provide advice to stakeholders within Western Power on matters relating to the outage assessment process
- Engage with external parties and private customers to ensure the safe and secure operation of the SWIS as part of the outage approval process
- Preparation of Network Operation contingency plans and development of alternative work methodologies during outage planning to minimise the exposure to security and regulatory risk,
- Investigate safety, security and reliability issues related to Network Operations in conjunction with stakeholders and assist to promote the awareness of any system security issues to the relevant stakeholders
- Assist in training new starters, peers and graduates within Network Operations. Assist in the preparation of training material relevant to power systems and task related activities. The incumbent is accountable for participating in regular training, undertaking compliance assessments and in also identifying and implementing self-training requirements
- Review and recommend changes to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Guidelines (G’s) and processes to achieve optimal service delivery, minimise network security risk, improve safety and reliability of the SWIS and ensure compliance with service standard benchmarks
- Ensure additions, modifications and customer connections to the network meet operational requirements and are updated in SCADA and ratings systems, including linked operational databases
- Assist in Network incidents investigation and reporting, including assessing and reporting against Western Power and Regulatory performance targets
- Provide real time engineering support to facilitate the power system being operated in a secure and reliable manner
- Recommend outage windows to minimise network security risk and analyse reasons for outage cancellations
- Stakeholder engagement and management of effective (open and trusting) relationships with operational personnel within major customer organisations and Independent Power Producers (IPP's) including Synergy and with operational staff throughout Western Power
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Degree Qualification in Electrical Engineering with eligibility to CPEng status by Engineers Australia
- At least 4 + years’ experience in power engineering role in transmission or distribution networks
- Proficiency in computer systems. e.g.DM, Microsoft Office, Power Point, load flow and fault level studies
- Electrical Engineering knowledge with respect to HV/LV construction, maintenance and commissioning practices
- Sound knowledge and experience of Protection, SCADA and communications systems and practices
- Experience in Power system installations, planning, operations and safety needs
