Planning Engineer – Permanent Full Time – Perth CBD
Join our team as a Planning Engineer and help shape the future of our network.
You’ll identify network issues, design smart solutions, and turn strategic plans into actionable projects. You’ll also prepare business cases, planning reports, and implement technical criteria, all while ensuring projects are properly budgeted and approved.
Your Role in Action
- Shape long-term and short-term investment proposals, ensuring they align with Western Power’s 50-year outlook, network strategy, and asset plans.
- Develop and maintain a 10-year Network Development Plan that addresses growth, asset needs, reliability, and major customer connections, clearly outlining risks and benefits to the business and community.
- Support the creation of efficient, data-driven business plans for network expansion and asset replacement within operational, financial, and regulatory frameworks.
- Design innovative solutions—both network and non-network—to resolve system constraints, and prepare robust business cases that demonstrate financial and commercial credibility.
- Contribute to Joint Planning Teams by providing expert technical input into option analysis and project scoping.
- Establish and improve technical criteria, frameworks, and processes to meet organisational and governance requirements, incorporating new technologies where appropriate.
- Assess the impact of new generators and loads on the network and integrate findings into planning.
- Evaluate technical solutions to planning challenges, including costing options that may support regulatory proposals.
- Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans to address delays, unexpected connections, and system limitations, while providing technical advice to System Management and Operations.
- Apply, review, and refine technical rules, policies, and planning criteria to guide network investment.
- Deliver accurate data and forecasts for investment proposals and provide technical support to asset and operations planning teams, including senior engineers and managers.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Degree Qualification in Engineering (Electrical)
- At least 4 to 5 years’ experience in planning, design, operation and maintenance of electricity transmission networks.
- Knowledge of performing load flow and dynamics studies in Powerfactory or equivalent software packages.
- Experience in Economic and Financial evaluation techniques.
- Well-developed written, verbal and presentation / communications skills
