Principal Engineer – Permanent Full Time – Perth CBD
Western Power is seeking a Principal Engineer to provide strategic technical leadership across our transmission network. This is a pivotal role – enabling the connection of renewable energy, influencing engineering direction, driving network innovation, and ensuring the day-to-day reliability and security of the energy systems millions of Western Australians depend upon.
With broad scope and impact, you’ll set the standards, policies, and technical criteria that guide how our critical infrastructure is operated and accessed.
Your Role in Action
- Provide high level subject matter expertise engineering advice and guidance for short term network security, reliability, capacity and constraint management (operating the networks within limits).
- Set strategy, develop and approve Network Operations policies and standards for managing the operation of the transmission network. This includes but not limited to managing network constraints, contingencies, load reduction and rotation, low and peak loads.
- Liaise and coordinate with internal and external customers such as transmission connected generators and major customers on engineering matters relating to Network Operations.
- Oversee the commissioning of transmission connected generators and provide approval to operate.
- Provide technical leadership and solutions to the operational impact of increasing renewable generation penetration.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Degree in Electrical Engineering discipline
- Chartered Professional Engineer of Engineers Australia
- At least 15 years relevant broad and or deep technical knowledge and expertise gained through comprehensive experience in engineering with specific knowledge and extensive power system experience
- Extensive experience in directing a technical team
- Extensive knowledge of engineering standards, regulations and procedures relating to the operation of the transmission network
- Highly developed written, verbal and presentation communications skills
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others
