Principal Environmental Strategy and Policy Advisor – 24 Month Maximum Term – Perth CBD Office

 

The Principal Environmental Strategy and Policy Advisor is responsible for developing and embedding environmental strategy and policy to support Western Power’s transmission expansion program. The role requires experience in major projects, environmental impact assessment, and sustainability, with a focus on implementing programs and partnerships that deliver best-practice environmental performance and effective environmental risk management. 

 

Your Role in Action  

 

  • Accountable for developing the Environmental Strategy and Policy requirements to support the decarbonisation program.
  • Identify and manage the environmental issues of project development and include the effective engagement of key stakeholders.
  • Provide assessment and approval pathway input into project baseline scheduling through all phases of the project life cycle.
  • Drive the management cadence of monitoring, reporting and audits of the environmental impact assessment process through all phases of the investment governance project cycle. 
  • Provide input into line route / site selection processes and into sustainability assessment / multi-criteria decision-making assessments for line route / site selection.
  • Participate in the development, communication and implementation of environmental policies and procedures that enable effective environmental management of Western Power’s assets.
  • Ensure effective communication, stakeholder management, organisational readiness, and adequate management of change impacts to enable program objectives to be achieved without unnecessary or unacceptable business disruption.
  • Build and maintain a constructive and consultative working environment through open communication and effective relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Providing mentoring and coaching to others as required.

 

What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Environmental Management, or related discipline.
  • 15+ years’ experience in managing and delivering environmental impact assessment programs and approvals in mining, construction and or infrastructure sector.
  • Extensive technical experience in statutory (government) approvals, with a demonstrated ability to strategically plan, maintain project schedules and obtain approval outcomes.
  • Awareness in statutory planning and Aboriginal heritage approval strategies, risks, and opportunities.
  • Best practice experience in Environmental Management Systems, environmental policies, procedures, standards, and trends in environmental management
  • Strong negotiation and relationship skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation including C Suite
  • Proactive, tenacious, and strong influencer with excellent communication and presentation skills including demonstrated ability to consult, guide and influence decision makers using appropriate authority.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills and exposure to risk management and governance processes.
  • Demonstrated management of consultants, including project delivery, budgeting, and reporting
  • Highly developed analytical skills required to be applied to complex organisational challenges and opportunities.
