Principal Internal Auditor

Are you ready to make a real impact? We have an exceptional opportunity for a Principal Internal Auditor to join our Legal, Governance & External Relations Team on a permanent, full-time basis. In this pivotal role, you will be accountable for delivering independent, objective assurance and expert risk management advice. You will contribute to the overall governance, risk management, and controls that support the efficient and effective delivery of Western Power’s Corporate Strategy, values and the management of business Strategic risks.

 

This role also requires strong stakeholder management skills—engaging with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels to foster collaboration, influence decision-making, and ensure alignment with Western Powers strategic objectives. Your Key Role activities in Action  

 

  • Provide strategic leadership and advice on contemporary audit and risk management strategies that will contribute to the improved governance and organisational performance outcomes of Western Power.
  • Coordinate and manage the internal audit activity to ensure the successful planning and implementation of Western Power’s internal audit program.
  • Undertake and conduct detailed and in-depth audits, analysis, research and provide expert advice to significantly improve Western Power’s operations in line with the delivery of the Corporate Strategy.
  • Manage activities in accordance with internal audit charter and in line with internal audit procedures.
  • Ensure the annual audit plan is aligned to and supports Western Power in the delivery of the Corporate Strategy and manage Strategic Risks. 
  • Where required, provide expert authoritative, independent and confidential advice to management to support Western Power’s purpose and objectives.

 

 What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • At least 7 years extensive & demonstrated experience in the fields of auditing and risk assurance activities e.g. include creation and overseeing and managing the delivery of internal audit activities; and contract management of external service providers who provide audit services that support delivery of internal audit activities.
  • Degree qualification in Law, Economics or Commerce or an equivalent discipline.
  • Broad and/or deep knowledge coupled with comprehensive expertise in engaging with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • In-depth understanding of risk and compliance management and its application in a business.
  • Proven ability to successfully deliver expert risk and audit advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders in a complex, diverse and often difficult environment.
  • Ability to identify and escalate relevant risks, and assurance issues.
  • Strong and proven ability to constructively engage with non-executive directors and Senior leadership with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven high level negotiating skills to support value added outcomes.
  • Expert analytical and problem-solving skills with strong business acumen capability, ability to think conceptually and ability to apply business context to prepare executive papers, board submission, external communications and process improvement methodologies.
  • Proven ability to lead and interact with others key stakeholders to influence, develop, motivate, and change behaviour.
  • Member of a relevant professional body e.g. Institute of Risk Management, Chartered Insurance Institute or Internal Audit or Australian Society of CPA’s or an equivalent professional membership.
