Principal Solution Engineer – Permanent Full time – Perth CBD

 

Take the lead in a newly created role that that puts you at the forefront of designing the next generation of transmission and distribution infrastructure - shaping the future of Western Power’s Major Customer-initiated projects.

As a Principal Solution Engineer, you'll be a key technical leader driving high-impact design strategy and innovation.

Your Role in Action  

 

  • To take full accountability for Feasibility design consultancy and concept design for complex transmission and distribution infrastructure in accordance with safety requirements, technical standards, regulatory requirements, legal requirements, business requirements and the strategic goals of the organization
  • To drive efficiency and rigour in all technical delivery by providing cross-program co-ordination and technical leadership while ensuring all risk are minimised and mitigated in the design process
  • Negotiate and influence scope development with stakeholders both internally to Western Power and externally with customers and customer’s consultants, for mutually beneficial outcomes, with risk parameters So far as is reasonably practicable.
  • Act as the “go-to” and definitive resource for technical guidance and expert support in resolving complex design solution issues through providing technical leadership and functional guidance and support
  • Manage the assigned program and / or projects with the mandate and accountability to ensure outcomes are achieved in a timely manner; cross function and initiative interdependencies, risks, issues and assumptions are identified, monitored and actively managed
  • Lead, coordinate and manage the assigned program and / or related projects through to completion of concept design, within budget and in line with quality standards and stakeholder expectations
  • Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcome of the assigned program and or associated projects
  • Develop strategic objectives and project scope, establish project resourcing as required and governance structures, establish resources and manage from inception to concept design.
  • Determine business information requirements and manage internal relationships to ensure provision of information
  • Monitor and control all budgeted expenditures in line with set out constraints
  • Successful risk management against regulatory, commercial, reputational, legal and safety risks, as low as reasonably practicable 

 

What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering
  • Eligible for membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia
  • A seasoned professional with both broad and deep knowledge and expertise of engineering and design gained through comprehensive experience i.e. 15+ years in engineering or design management roles for, preferably, an electrical utility environment
  • Significant experience developing solutions to complex infrastructure projects
  • Working knowledge of technical standards and design principles for complex electrical transmission installations
  • Proven successful program delivery outcomes within tight timeframes within a complex environment
  • Strong negotiation and relationship skills and the ability to communicate internally at all levels of the organisation (including C Suite) and externally to customers, consultants and contractors
  • Ability to negotiate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve win-win outcomes
  • Ability to lead and influence project stakeholders to achieve business outcomes
  • Proven technical leadership and team building skills when managing large and complex programs and projects
  • Strategic perspective, strong analytical and business acumen capability, ability to think conceptually and ability to apply business context to when generating solutions
  • Proven mentoring and coaching skills
