Principal Technology Architect

Step into a pivotal and extendable 12‑month fixed‑term with opportunity as Principal Technology Architect, where you’ll provide senior technical leadership across Western Power’s information technology landscape.

In this role, you’ll shape and guide IT solution architectures that enable business capabilities across applications, integration, data, and platforms. You’ll ensure solutions are robust, secure, scalable, and aligned to technology strategy and ready to delivery on our business partner priorities.

Cloud is a key enabler of Western Power’s technology and works alongside substantial private cloud, networking, security, SaaS, PaaS and Operational Technology. You’ll be cloud‑fluent and working closely with peer architects in cyber and cloud to ensure IT solutions operate effectively as integrated hybrid platforms.

You’ll form part of a Technology Infrastructure Platform team that act as a trusted design authority, FinOps and Cloud Centres of Excellence uplifting our Platforms Capabilities.

 

Your Role in Action

 

  • Provide senior architecture leadership across the information technology domains, formulating the roadmap and the program that powers Western Power’s Technology Infrastructure Platforms.
  • Lead the design of IT solutions that meet business and operational requirements, ensuring alignment to technology standards, and principles.
  • Collaborate closely with Cloud, Infrastructure, Security, and Control Systems Architects to ensure end‑to‑end solution coherence across on‑premise, hybrid, and cloud environments.
  • Ensure IT solutions appropriately leverage cloud capabilities, while respecting architectural boundaries, operational constraints, and security requirements.
  • Define and maintain IT reference architectures, patterns, and standards to support consistent, high‑quality solution design.
  • Act as a design authority for IT initiatives, reviewing solution designs, guiding delivery teams, and ensuring alignment to architectural guardrails.
  • Lead the development of technology and domain roadmaps, providing input into sequencing, dependencies, and architectural risk.
  • Support architecture governance by participating in forums and reviews that assure design quality, compliance, and long‑term sustainability.
  • Partner with delivery teams and vendors to ensure solutions are implemented in line with architectural intent.
  • Mentor and uplift capability across technology teams by sharing best practice, supporting design development, and contributing to architecture artefacts and documentation.

 

What Makes You a Great Fit

 

  • Extensive experience as a Principal, Lead, or Senior IT Architect, designing solutions across Infrastructure, cloud, applications, integration, data, and platforms in large, complex organisations.
  • Strong understanding of modern IT architectures, including API‑led integration, automation, orchestration, data platforms, enterprise applications, and cloud‑enabled solutions.
  • Cloud‑fluent, with the ability to work effectively with Cloud architects and engineering teams to design solutions that leverage cloud services appropriately.
  • Proven ability to lead solution design, influence technical direction, and support delivery teams through complex initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to translate business needs into pragmatic technical designs.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator, able to engage with architects, engineers, vendors, and senior stakeholders.
