Product Lead – Perth CBD – Permanent

 

Be part of the exciting transformation of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) as a central element of WA’s energy transition.

 

This position, is accountable for working with the Area Manager to define the vision for the DER Connection process and developing the strategic roadmap, balancing the needs and risks for multiple stakeholders.

 

The role will be the point person for delivery of an end-to-end redesign of how DER connects to the network, commencing in early 2026. The redesign will enable improved data capture, compliance, and enhanced customer experience in connecting DER to deliver outcomes in line with the State Government’s DER Roadmap and Western Power’s role as Distributed System Operator (DSO).

 

This position serves as the product expert for the business area and development teams, translating and clarifying requirements between the DER Connections area and the technology development teams. It will also be responsible for external stakeholder engagement to ensure good customer experience and effective integration of systems where required.

 

Your Role in Action  

 

  • Define the product vision and roadmap- the product lead uses their high-level perspective to define goals based on the Area Manager’s vision for the product and creates  a strategic roadmap to deliver that vision..
  • Manage the product backlog - create the list of requirements, user stories and prioritise them based on the overall strategy and business objectives.
  • Prioritise needs – manage the scope, budget, and time, weigh priorities according to the needs and objectives of stakeholders – both internal and external.
  • Oversee development stages – translate business vision and strategy into product roadmap, release plans, and manages product priorities set by the business throughout planning, refinement, review, and sprint cycles.
  • Represent sponsors and business areas - understand and anticipate the business needs to manage the prioritisation more effectively, engage business owners and subject matter experts as appropriate, use deep market knowledge and communication skills.
  • Act as primary liaison - primary communicator and link between internal & external stakeholders and developmentteams, must be an expert communicator to ensure stakeholder buy-in on all major decisions and product strategy, and clear instructions and deliverables for development teams.
  • Translate policy and regulation into product outcomes – ensure the inter-dependencies of evolving policy and regulations relating to DER are mapped into product development to enable broader strategic outcomes.   
  • Reduce Technical Debt - accountable for addressing technical debt reduction in all priority considerations and maintaining transparency on the state of the application.
  • Evaluate product progress at each iteration - accountable for each stage of the development process and the final product by inspecting and evaluating product progress through each iteration.

 

 What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a field relevant to the business.
  • Seasoned professional with extensive expertise and knowledge having worked as a Program or Project Manager for a minimum of 8 + years with demonstrated experience in high value/highly complex projects.
  • More than 2 years’ experience in a product owner or product management role
  • Demonstrated success delivering project outcomes including design, development, and implementation
  • Demonstrated 2+ experience working in or leading projects using an Agile methodology
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in influencing senior management and guiding working groups
  • Prior experience in developing product strategy, product development roadmap and process success in delivering to a plan
  • Clear decision-making ability and proven success in balancing multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure and meeting deadlines.
