Safety Regulatory & Audit Manager

We’re excited to introduce a newly created opportunity for a Safety Regulatory & Audit Manager - a pivotal role that will serve as the single point of truth for all matters relating to SHE regulatory engagement, public impact, and assurance across Western Power.
As the central point of contact for regulatory bodies, you’ll be responsible for maintaining strong, respectful stakeholder relationships through proactive, timely, consistent, and solution-oriented communication. You’ll act as the key conduit between internal teams and external partners—including regulators, legal, governance, and public stakeholders—ensuring Western Power not only remains compliant but is positioned as a proactive, credible, and trusted organisation in the SHE space.
In this role, you will lead the coordination and delivery of a strategic, consistent approach to SHE-related regulatory and audit activities, helping shape regulatory outcomes and influence both internal controls and external perception. You’ll oversee Line 2 audit programs, drive continuous improvement, and influence the design of Line 1 activities to ensure effective alignment with assurance frameworks.
This is a high-impact, high-visibility role suited for a confident communicator and influencer, with a strong understanding of SHE governance and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments with credibility and clarity.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- 10+ years’ experience managing strategic relationships with regulators, public bodies, and internal stakeholders.
- Strong background in safety compliance, audits, and assurance in complex, high-risk operational environments.
- In-depth knowledge of utility sector regulations, including Network Safety Regulations 2015, WHS legislation, and AS 5577.
- Skilled in managing communications during operational incidents, including regulatory reporting and Western Power leadership information dissemination.
- Strong understanding of Safety Management Systems and compliance effectiveness against legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Proven ability to influence regulatory outcomes through engagement, reporting, and negotiation.
- Leadership experience in managing safety professionals, with a focus on coaching, performance management and building high performing teams.
- Relevant tertiary qualification e.g bachelor’s degree qualification in public relations, law, stakeholder management, safety or related discipline.
