Senior Business Specialist -  Permanent Full Time / Perth CBD

 

This role plays a key part in supporting the strategic and operational delivery of the Major Customer Decarbonisation team. It ensures effective business planning, financial management, performance reporting, and governance to drive customer-centric energy solutions. The role collaborates closely with finance, regulatory, and strategy teams to support Western Power’s objectives.


It also enhances engagement with major customers, industry partners, and government stakeholders. A focus on collaboration, accountability, and integrity is essential, reflecting Western Power’s values in every interaction. The position contributes to risk management, procurement oversight, and reporting on progress to ensure timely, budget-aligned delivery of key initiatives.

 

Your Role in Action  

 

The role will operate with a high degree of autonomy:

 

Strategic Planning & Business Performance

 

  • Lead business planning and performance tracking to align with strategic objectives.
  • Support the Head of Major Customer Decarbonisation to identify and prioritise business     opportunities.
  • Conduct regular and timely analysis of functional performance across all areas, highlight opportunities, risks, and areas to drive improvement.
  • Design KPIs, performance monitoring and reporting processes across the business unit or areas that support the delivery of strategic objectives.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement in business processes.
  • Provide ongoing measurement and management of performance against business requirements, and benchmark against industry best-practice.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and in-depth complex analysis, advice, and direction in, among other things, gap analysis facilitation and high-level scoping to facilitate data driven business decision making capabilities.
  • Convert business strategy and plans into a high-level definition of the required business initiative with a clear understanding of delivery success.
  • Provide support in the development of the high-level initiative success criteria as well as how best to measure improvement (financial and/or non-financial).

 

Financial & Commercial Management

 

  • Manage budget planning, forecasting, and financial performance tracking.
  • Provide commercial analysis and support financial decision-making for major customer programs and initiatives.
  • Ensure operational initiatives are consistently identified, managed, and delivered within (or under) budget by desired timeframes.
  • Work with finance teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Demonstrate continuous improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve cost efficiency and productivity across the business.

 

 Governance & Compliance

 

  • Ensure adherence to corporate governance, risk, and compliance frameworks.
  • Coordinate reporting obligations, including internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Maintain oversight of key business risks and mitigation strategies.

 

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

 

  • Support strategic engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, industry bodies, and government agencies.
  • Act as a liaison between the Major Customer Decarbonisation team and other business units to enhance collaboration
  • Lead internal communication initiatives to support team alignment and engagement.
  • Event coordination and management; customer forums, industry, and customer events.
  • Provide program management and ongoing governance over significant strategic initiatives for the business unit.
  • Support customer engagement activities including the development of project and issues briefing papers, and in providing direction to the business administration assistant, as necessary.

 

Project & Initiative Support

 

  • Provide business and operational support for major customer programs, including Clean Energy Link and transmission expansion initiatives.
  • Develop business cases, reports, and presentations to support decision-making and investment processes.
  • Successful transition of projects to business as usual with minimal business impact, ensuring change management is effective and increase the chances of success for benefits delivery
  • Support process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and customer experience.
  • Ensure project and quality assurance controls and gate checks are undertaken to minimise risk to delivery, costs and quality

 

What Makes You a Great Fit

 

  • Relevant qualifications or 5+ years demonstrated experience in business management, project management, commercial, customer management or strategic planning roles.
  • Strong background in business management, project coordination, customer service, strategy, commercial or similar.
  • Experience in financial planning, budgeting, and commercial decision-making.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work collaboratively, and drive outcomes in a complex business environment.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with a
  • strategic mindset.
  • Strong experience in customer and stakeholder engagement.
