Step into a unique opportunity as a Senior Community Engagement Specialist, where your work will directly shape how communities connect with the future of infrastructure. In this dynamic role, you’ll design and deliver best-practice engagement strategies, building meaningful relationships with stakeholders while leading proactive, high-impact community engagement initiatives.
You’ll work across a diverse portfolio of projects, from customer-funded programs to major infrastructure developments, embracing innovative technologies such as microgrids and battery solutions. At the heart of this role is your ability to foster trust, deepen understanding, and bring communities along the journey, ensuring projects are delivered with clarity, confidence, and collaboration.
Your contribution will be critical in strengthening stakeholder relationships and enhancing community insight, ultimately reducing risk for both Western Power and the communities we serve.
We have one permanent role and one 12 month fixed-term role available.
Your Role in Action
- Lead the design and delivery of best-practice community engagement strategies that bring people along the journey of Western Power’s infrastructure projects
- Provide hands-on, strategic expertise to drive meaningful engagement outcomes across both internal teams and external stakeholders
- Shape and strengthen Western Power’s approach to community and stakeholder engagement across new and existing projects
- Deliver impactful engagement plans across multiple projects - creating compelling communications, embracing digital innovation, and connecting directly with communities
- Build and nurture trusted relationships with key stakeholders, including Local Government and project partners, ensuring alignment and shared success
- Champion the voice of the community internally, influencing decisions and fostering a culture that values engagement and transparency
- Monitor, evaluate, and continuously improve engagement activities, sharing insights, progress, and lessons learned to drive better outcomes
- Enhance Western Power’s reputation by minimising community impacts, managing complex issues with care, and supporting engagement during critical or high-profile situations
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Proven experience in communications, community engagement, stakeholder management, or a related field
- Strong expertise in delivering best-practice engagement approaches, ideally across large-scale infrastructure or innovative projects
- Understanding of the International Association for Public Participation spectrum and its practical application
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build trust across diverse stakeholder groups
- Highly developed listening skills, with a genuine ability to understand different perspectives and respond with empathy
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Communications, Social Planning, Social Sciences, Marketing, or a related discipline
