Senior Government Relations Specialist – Perth CBD – 12 Month Max Term Contract or Permanent

 

The Senior Government Relations Specialist is responsible for providing senior leaders with timely and distinctive insights into the external political climate in Australia and its impact on Western Power’s Clean Energy Link, as well as other operations and aspirations.

 

This role will promote Western Power’s Clean Energy Link and other strategic interests by leading engagement and communicating complex information to influence key stakeholder, particularly in government.

 

Your Role in Action  

 

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key government stakeholders to appropriately represent Western Power’s position on various issues and build support for Western Power’s strategic initiatives.
  • Provide advice to Western Power teams regarding key external issues and stakeholder management, to build capacity, confidence, and ability to represent Western Power’s interests in their external facing activities and decision making.
  • Promote the value and function of Government Relations across Western Power to ensure advocacy opportunities are maximised for the business.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key government stakeholders to appropriately represent Western Power’s position on various issues and build support for Western Power’s strategic initiatives.
  • Appropriately represent Western Power’s position on various issues with external stakeholders, facilitate relationships (particularly with community leaders, government stakeholders, Members of Parliament, advocacy bodies and regulators) in the interests of protecting and promoting Western Power’s corporate reputation.
  • Liaise with project and finance teams to best understand milestones and deliverables for the Clean Energy Link.
  • Prepare all documentation to be submitted via Government’s decarbonisation process, including ERC and sub-committees of ERC.
  • Monitor research and evaluate energy industry issues at state, national and international levels, assess their likely impact on Western Power and provide advice to relevant internal stakeholder regarding these matters.
  • Collate information across the business to advise on and communicate key issues, risks, strategic priorities related to Clean Energy Link to external parties in a timely manner and at a high professional standard.

 

 What Makes You a Great Fit 

  • A tertiary qualification in public / social policy, politics, management or business-related discipline.
  • Proven experience in managing relationships and engaging with key stakeholders, particularly State or Federal parliamentary, political systems and processes.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, that enable effective interaction between key stakeholders.
  • Broad and extensive knowledge and expertise in managing external relations with individuals and organisations in similar businesses.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess the impact of external issues on the organisation and provide strategic advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage an external issues management framework, including providing analysis and advice on reputational and stakeholder impacts.
