Senior Policy and Engagement Specialist – Perth CBD – Maximum Term 12-months

 

Play a key role in shaping how Western Power engages with our communities, stakeholders and government partners at a pivotal time in WA’s energy transition.

 

As our Senior Policy and Engagement Specialist, you’ll lead the design and delivery of best-practice engagement strategies across a diverse portfolio of projects and initiatives. This is a highly visible role where you’ll influence how we connect, communicate and build trust—both internally and externally.

 

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to Western Power’s Distribution Energy Transition  program, helping to shape the future of our network and the way we deliver value to our customers and the community.

 

Your Role in Action  

 

  • Lead the development and delivery of best-practice engagement strategies and plans across key projects and initiatives
  • Provide proactive, hands-on strategic engagement expertise to support both internal and external outcomes
  • Contribute to the evolution of Western Power’s community and stakeholder engagement approach
  • Deliver engagement plans aligned to business strategy and brand, including:
    • Developing high-quality communications (digital, social, project updates, media and publications)
    • Identifying innovative ways to engage communities via digital platforms and emerging channels
    • Building relationships through direct stakeholder engagement and consultation
    • Supporting and delivering events that mark key project milestones
    • Managing escalated customer and stakeholder issues with professionalism and care
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Energy Policy WA and project partners, ensuring alignment of messaging and approach
  • Act as an internal advocate for community perspectives, influencing decision-making and strengthening engagement maturity across the business
  • Monitor and report on engagement activity, outcomes and insights to inform continuous improvement
  • Enhance Western Power’s reputation through meaningful, transparent stakeholder engagement
  • Foster strong cross-functional relationships to ensure alignment and collaboration across the organisation
  • Provide trusted advice on stakeholder and communication risks, including support on complex or sensitive issues

 

What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Tertiary qualification in Communications, Social Planning and Sciences, Marketing, or related discipline
  • Extensive experience and knowledge in communication, community engagement, stakeholder management or a related field
  • Demonstrated and high level of subject matter expertise and experience in incorporating best practice communication / community and stakeholder engagement practices in large and contentious infrastructure / innovative projects
  • Understanding of International Association of Public Participation spectrum
  • Advanced and very strong communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate at multiple stakeholder levels
  • Strong ability to demonstrate understanding and empathy
