Senior Project Development Engineer or Specialist– Perth Office – Permanent Full Time
We have an opportunity to join our Grid Transformation Team, and we’re open to appointing either a Senior Project Development Engineer or a Senior Project Development Specialist, depending on your skills and experience.
In this role, you’ll lead the scoping, and development phases of Western Power’s network driven projects. You’ll be working on exciting initiatives and challenging projects involving distribution undergrounding and network augmentation.
Your role will be to take charge of the development and project management aspects of these complex, high-value initiatives, ensuring they meet both strategic and network driven goals. you'll develop robust business cases that justify the recommended solutions and ensure they align with financial, regulatory, and performance requirements.
In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to challenge existing technical solutions, influence decision-making, and drive improvements at every stage of the project. Working within a dynamic and collaborative environment, you’ll help us deliver projects on time and within budget, all while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.
Your Role in Action
- Lead Joint Planning Teams to explore and define project options
- Develop and collate robust and detailed documentation to support investment decisions.
- Analyse and assess technical solutions to planning problems, including costing of feasible options.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective and timely framing of decisions and/or contracts relating to complex network and major customer connections and line relocations.
- Ensure appropriate and robust commercial solutions having regard to risk implications and all engineering requirements.
- Be responsible and accountable for the production and management of accurate capital budget requirements associated with complex projects.
- Develop clear, well structured business cases that support recommended network solutions and help drive investment decisions.
- Take a balanced, big-picture approach to solving complex challenges – there’s rarely one right answer, so you’ll need to think strategically and consider multiple perspectives.
- Ensure all systems are kept up to date and accurate as required to reflect project status, financial information and stakeholder relationship. Apply the Regulatory and Technical rules, policies and guidelines to network investments and planning criteria.
- Provide high quality data and forecasts with respect to investment proposals.
- Develop, lead and support innovation and continuous improvement initiatives within the Function.
What Makes You a Great Fit
We’re open to candidates from both technical engineering and project development backgrounds.
To be successful, you’ll bring:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering (for Engineer pathway), or a tertiary qualification in a business-related field (for Specialist pathway)
- Eligibility for CPEng status (Engineer), or equivalent commercial/project experience (Specialist)
- Around 9+ years’ experience in planning, developing or delivering transmission or distribution network projects
- Strong understanding of project frameworks, risk, commercial and compliance management
- Great communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving
- The ability to apply a balanced, strategic view to complex planning issues
