Senior SHE Specialist – Permanent Full Time / Perth CBD Office

 

To lead the development and implementation of proactive Safety, Health and Environment programs, and provide insight and raising of awareness to safety risks and controls, to support the business achieve great safety performance through effective engagement with team members, internal stakeholders, and Western Power’s internal and external workforces.

 

The role is part of the Major Capital Connection Services (Major Capital) team, who are responsible for the delivery of high profile and challenging customer initiated projects. Major projects include connecting renewable generation and battery storage projects, large mining customers and industrial loads, as well as network asset relocations to support critical state infrastructure projects.

 

Your Role in Action  

 

  • Lead, plan, manage and implement a program of governance activities and initiatives related to workforce safety, occupational health and environment across the Major Capital program of work.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to the Project Managers, Contract Managers and the Major Capital Area Managers to ensure Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) objectives are consistently met.
  • Establish, develop and maintain valued day to day relationships with internal and external workforces.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for improvement to minimise Health, Safety and Environment risk.
  • Influence improvements to standard designs, work practices, data quality and asset information to improve the performance of our workforce.
  • Analyse data and identify trends, leading to opportunities to improve workforce safety, occupational health issues, environmental performance and public safety.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to management, team members and external workforce to ensure the required levels of quality of investigations, reports and recommendations are consistently achieved
  • Engage team members and external workforce to ensure the successful implementation of workforce incident investigation recommendations and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coach and mentor team members on health and safety related matters.

 

 What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Bachelor degree qualification in Safety, or related discipline or Trade/technical qualifications in an electrical discipline with 10+ year extensive relevant work experience.
  • Extensive demonstrated experience in construction, preferably in a relevant electrical discipline, or other high risk activities.
  • Knowledge of the regulations associated with electrical transmission and distribution networks
  • Extensive demonstrated experience and knowledge in leading or facilitation of Health, Safety and Environment audits.
  • Extensive demonstrated experience and knowledge in ICAM investigation process or similar.
  • Sound knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution networks and their associated systems, and any inherent or potential risks associated with these or relevant industry experience is required
  • Extensive (at least 10+ years) demonstrated experience in devising, developing and implementing Safety, Health and Environment awareness campaigns
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to work to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to identify and escalate Safety, Health and Environment risks and issues
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining strong working relationships at all levels of an organisation, and with external workforces.
