Senior Planning Engineer: Permanent Full Time / Perth CBD Office

 

We are seeking a Senior Planner to support the long-term expansion of the South West Interconnected System (SWIS). In this role, you will collaborate with internal teams and key external stakeholders to develop scoping and planning studies for transmission expansion projects. You'll play a vital role in ensuring that the Transmission Expansion Plan aligns with Western Power’s objectives while addressing the community’s evolving energy needs. Your Role in Action  

 

  • Assisting with the development of scoping and planning studies for transmission expansion projects, identified through long-term strategic planning processes.
  • Providing thought leadership, and rapidly responding to strategic and / or time critical activities that arise during the development and delivery phase work on transmission projects/programs/portfolios.
  • Assist with customer engagements in relation to the CEL Program and its feasibility and staging.
  • Support the social performance team with landholder/community engagements, and environmental impact assessments and environmental regulator engagements.
  • Support of Western Power’s engagements and relationships with Government regarding transmission expansion plans, strategic industrial area activation, etc.; including EPWA, PoweringWA, JTSI, DPLH, etc.
  • Perform risk assessments and make recommendations (including development of contingency plans) to deal with the transmission network related risks which are managed by the Area.
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders (includes, but not limited to System Management, Access Solutions, Customer Relations, AEMO, planners, designers, project managers, peers in other Functions and customers

What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Degree in Engineering (Electrical or equivalent)
  • Eligible for CPEng / NPER registration
  • At least 9 + years relevant broad and extensive knowledge and expertise with demonstrated technical experience covering the following areas:
    • Planning, design, operation, and maintenance of electricity transmission networks
    • Large generation and load connection studies including assessment of dynamic behaviour, control system assessments and tuning of parameters.
  • Economic and financial evaluation techniques.
  • Understanding of energy markets and good appreciation of regulatory frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success in liaising with and influencing a variety of stakeholders to achieve business goals and maintaining strong working relationships at all levels of an organisation.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of modelling requirements for performing transmission network power system studies.
  • Broad knowledge of transmission system plant and its application, including the planning criteria, specifications, and design requirements
