The team/department:

 

You will be joining Western Power’s Engineering & Design (Substation Design). Substation Design undertakes Transmission Substation design for the Western Power work program and is accountable for the development and management of engineering design standards and specifications associated with transmission substations (including related plant and equipment). The team you will be joining focuses on the procurement and integration of transmission substation plant equipment.
 

What you will be doing:  

 

As the Senior Substation Engineer, you will be responsible for facilitating the delivery of high-quality substation engineering and design services in a safe, reliable, efficient, and commercially responsible manner. 

 

This will be achieved through using extensive technical knowledge, experience, and skills to undertake assigned substation related activities and detail design work without supervision.

 

  • Required to work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, responsible for the detail design and drafting work associated with assigned substation projects
  • Required to apply extensive skills, knowledge and experience to complete complex assigned tasks to relevant standards, considering task performance requirements, task management and contingency management
  • Prepare, without supervision, substation plant specifications  and take responsibility for contract award activities of assigned work
  • Provide deep technical advice to influence and / or formulate direction and strategy of the substation design by applying skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Prepare, without supervision, detail design arrangements and drawings for assigned projects
  • Provide extensive mentoring and coaching on substation design both within and to the wider Western Power community
  • Responsible for detail design/drafting related standard development and process improvements to achieve optimal service delivery and safety initiatives
  • Proactively assesses and communicate risks, where decisions have a potential impact on others and actively seek and drive solutions to execution

The skills and experience you will have: 

 

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

 

  • Tertiary qualification in the relevant Engineering Discipline, recognised by Engineers Australia as satisfying the academic requirements for appointment as a Charted Professional Engineer
  • Be registered as a “Member” of Engineers Australia
  • Extensive technical engineering experience in a network business associated with the design and construction of substations.
  • At least 10 years of extensive engineering experience in a utility networks design business.
  • Sound working knowledge of other disciplines associated with substation design, including protection settings, SCADA and communications
  • Sound working knowledge of substation construction and commissioning practices
  • An understanding of risk and compliance management and its application in the business
