Senior Technician – Perth CBD – 18-month Maximum Term Contract

At Western Power, we're looking for a Senior Technician to join our team in the heart of Perth CBD on an 18-month maximum term contract. In this key role, you’ll play a critical part in shaping the future of our network — applying your knowledge to drive best-practice asset maintenance, condition monitoring, and intervention strategies across vital infrastructure.
Your Role in Action
- Completion of complex and technically challenging & multi-disciplined activities, related to the analysis, inspection, confirmation and rectification of active or latent defects.
- Responsible for complex assignments, providing subject matter expertise and guidance.
- Analyse and review deferred faults in alignment with Asset Maintenance Strategy.
- Carry out technical inspections / investigations on nominated asset class and prepare reports with recommendations and/or arrange necessary actions, to address identified defects or process shortfalls.
- Prioritize corrective actions for deferred faults based on severity and operational impact.
- Respond proactively to maintenance requirements on assets, to enhance the reliability of the network, assisting the Team Leader to meet key performance requirements.
- Ensure that maintenance risks are raised with Operational Asset Managers in a timely and effective manner, with recommendations provided according to their needs.
- Perform inspections and technical investigations on nominated asset classes to a professional standard, with recommendations.
- Conduct QA of asset replacement projects to ensure they meet maintenance and operational asset management requirements.
- Investigate required scope of maintenance activities, develop and maintain the related maintenance procedures, processes and check sheets for planned and un-planned maintenance activities.
- Continuously improving team effectiveness and capability.
- Introduce and manage change effectively, including implementing new maintenance technologies, systems, procedures, and practices to support improved efficiency and commercial outcomes.
- Operate within defined business processes and comply with all legal and contracting requirements.
- Develop maintenance procedures to enable quality maintenance requirements to be met.
- Share of technical knowledge and information. Provide detailed technical advice to others as required.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Possess Cert III (ESI Distribution / Transmission Overhead / Power Systems Distribution Cable Jointing) and/or Electrical Trade Certificate, and/or Current WA Electrical Workers License endorsed for Electrical Fitting
- A minimum of 10 to 15 years extensive and broad technical subject matter expertise within a particular discipline / nominated asset class
- Hold all appropriate industry licences or certificates of competency required to undertake all duties of this position
- Sound understanding of conditions raised on Distribution Assets, experience in remediation of defects.
- Have prior experience in coordination and technical supervision of others
- Strong experience dealing with external customers
- Advanced experience in facilitating change, gaining commitment and driving for results.
- Complete knowledge of and compliance with Safety regulations and practices
- Proven experience in high level negotiations and conflict resolution
- Resource and Financial Management practices and procedures
- Project, contract and maintenance management systems and tools
- Continuous improvement, training and coaching techniques
- MS Office systems, Word, Excel, Outlook and Access. Ellipse, EDM, and other specialist applications
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide technical support with sound interpersonal and communication skills
- Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’
