Senior Telecommunications Engineer – Permanent Full Time – Perth CBD

Your Role in Action
- Undertaking concept and detailed operational telecommunications designs of high complexity in support of the development of Western Power’s Transmission and Distribution networks, coordinating with other specialist internal Western Power design teams
- Prepare detailed and complex scopes and overall estimates for Telecommunications component of the full range of transmission and distribution projects (of all levels of complexity) and coordinate with other specialist groups
- Prepare detailed engineering specifications, analyse tenders, manage contracts and initiate purchase of equipment
- Provide engineering consultancy advice to internal stakeholders and external customers to assist them in options analysis, risk analysis, scope definition and implementation for the full range of transmission and distribution projects (of all levels of complexity)
- Review customer and external designs for compliance with Technical Rules and other legislative compliance requirements;
- Have significant input into new technologies and new designs applicable to Telecommunications
- Prepare telecommunications design scopes and manage the design contract process to successfully deliver outsourced concept and detailed designs produced by external design service providers operating from Western Power’s professional engineering services panel
- Apply Safety in Design principles in the preparation of all concept and detailed design activitiesDeliver services to commercially competitive standards for technical excellence, safety, environmental quality, cost and customer satisfaction
- Relentlessly drive continuous improvement, utilisation of standard designs (and updating thereof) to achieve sustained delivered value, while seamlessly contributing to the overall business
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Degree in electrical or electronic engineering recognised by Engineers Australia as satisfying the academic requirements for appointment as a professional engineer
- Eligibility for corporate membership of Engineers Australia
- Extensive knowledge of transmission and distribution secondary systems concept and detailed design, and estimating processes
- Sound knowledge of power system primary and secondary facilities
- High level understanding and knowledge of engineering standards, compliance & regulations, Technical Rules and procedures applicable to secondary systems
- Demonstrated technical leadership and technical coaching experience
- Sound understanding of risk management and its application to safety-in-design
- Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’
