Communications Technician – Permanent – South Metro Depot

 

The Communications Technician will be responsible for applying advanced telecommunications knowledge and skills gained, in the maintenance, operations, installation, commissioning and testing of Western Power telecommunications facilities.

 

This role is based at our brand-new state-of-the-art South Metro Depot in Forrestdale, conveniently located next to Tonkin Highway. Spanning across 120,000 square meters. With the latest infrastructure and technology, the depot empowers all employees to create that perfect work-life balance whilst operating in an inclusive and diverse workplace.

 

Your Role in Action

  • Providing technical expertise in the maintenance, operations, installation, commissioning, testing of Western Power telecommunications facilities
  • Champion safety of own work practices and the potential impact they may have on the safety of others
  • Have advanced relevant computing skills to program or diagnose faults in a wide range of Analogue or Digital electronic equipment
  • Diagnose to board level complex electronic faults in a wide range of Telecommunications equipment and Networks
  • Have an advanced understanding of Western Power’s Telecommunications Networks and Systems
  • Provide advanced technical expertise in the maintenance, operations, installation, commissioning, testing of Western Power telecommunications facilities
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports, procedures, and programmes
  • Be customer focused and take a whole of company view in keeping with the company’s values, codes, and standards.

 

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Cert IV in Electrotechnology / Electronics / Telecommunications or Radio / telecommunications Trade Certificate
  • Solid relevant technical experience in a telecommunications or related industry
  • Sound knowledge of SCADA & Telecommunications installation, commissioning, maintenance and operations field practices and procedures
  • Advanced knowledge of DC Systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Telecommunications Technologies e.g. PDH / SDH / Radio / SCADA Systems
  • Advanced knowledge of Teleprotection Systems
  • Project, contract and maintenance management systems and tools
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering standards, regulations, and procedures applicable to the Section and Stream.
