Operational Technical Officer – 12 Month Maximum Term Contract – South Metro Depot

 

Perform specialist complex technical tasks on Western Power’s network and provide construction and maintenance technical support and advice relating to the transmission and / or distribution network by investigating, evaluating, reporting, and providing recommendation in relation to new technologies, plant and equipment, training and works practices. This includes accountability to coordinate external training and deliver local training to meet operational requirements as well as e manage the field resource tools and equipment within their allocated budgets in an efficient and timely manner.

 

This role is based at our brand-new state-of-the-art South Metro Depot in Forrestdale, conveniently located next to Tonkin Highway. Spanning across 120,000 square meters. Your Role in Action  

 

  • Take personal accountability for safety in the work environment and ensure safe work practises are followed and a safe work environment maintained. Always ensure that Safety is the overarching value.
  • Plan for work in advance and adapt plan when resources are pulled away for other business priorities or system conditions change.
  • Provide support as directed in emergencies at depot, which may include implementing response strategies for emergency management and incident control and coordination.
  • Provide input and advice on complex technical queries / tasks being performed on the WP network to identify safe solutions or lead and coordinate complex technical issues/work on Western Power networks to identify resolutions.
  • Provide advice and / or guidance relating to faults or technical queries on the network.
  • Take personal accountability for work performance and be open to other contributions. Work cooperatively within the team and across Western Power.
  • Provide support, direction, and training through the sharing of technical knowledge and information.
  • Ensure feedback to stakeholders to keep them informed particularly if job not going to plan where appropriate.

 

What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Must possess current trade qualifications – current Certificate III in ESI - Power Systems - Distribution Cable Jointing and/or Certificate III in ESI - Power Systems - Distribution Overhead or Electrical Workers Licence.
  • Preferably at least 6+ years specialist technical experience in networks construction, maintenance and operations field practices and procedures.
  • Application of trade and post trade skills and competencies to suit local business requirements.
  • Knowledge of engineering/design standards, regulations, and procedures applicable to the area.
  • Sound communications skills, both written and verbal that enable effective interaction between key stakeholders.
  • Be a highly disciplined, self-starting member of a dynamic team.
  • Specialist technical experience and demonstrated knowledge in transmission and / or distribution network investigating, evaluating, and reporting.
  • Willingness to work and travel to other depot locations, as required.
