Communications Technician

As a Communications Technician, you will be required to apply specialist telecommunications technical knowledge and skills gained in the maintenance, operations, installation, commissioning and testing of Western Power telecommunications facilities / assets.

Your Role in Action  

• Provide, develop, design and research communications activities, prepare new product assessment reports and or conduct training and competency evaluations of field-based employees as required.
• Take personal accountability for safety in the work environment and ensure safe work practises are followed and a safe work environment maintained.
• Perform complex technical tasks for Communications networks
• Undertake installation, configuration, and commissioning of communications facilities on the Western Power Communications Network
• Evaluate, analyse, test and report on new or modified equipment or facilities in meeting specified performance criteria

What Makes You a Great Fit 

• Diploma in Electrotechnology / Electronics / Telecommunications or Radio / telecommunications Trade Certificate
• At least 7+ years demonstrated technical experience in a telecommunications or related industry
• Thorough knowledge of the system design for two or more of the following.
  • Fixed & Mobile Radio (VHF-SHF)
  • Cable Carrier Systems (Metallic/Optical Fiber)
  • MUX Networks
  • Ethernet Networks
  • High Speed Digital Transmission
  • Power Line Carrier systems
  • Tele protection systems
  • Supervisory systems
  • 3G/LTE and TCP/IP
• MS Office systems, Word, Excel & or Access. Ellipse and scheduling/work management systems
