Communications Technician

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Technician at South metro Depot, on a Permanent Full Time basis.

Your Role in Action  

 

As the Communications Technician you will be required to apply specialist telecommunications technical knowledge and skills gained in the maintenance, operations, installation, commissioning and testing of Western Power telecommunications facilities / assets.  In addition, this position will provide, develop, design and research communications activities, prepare new product assessment reports and or conduct training and competency evaluations of field-based employees as required.

 

 What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Diploma in Electrotechnology / Electronics / Telecommunications or Radio / telecommunications Trade Certificate
  • At least 7+ years demonstrated technical experience in a telecommunication or related industry
  • Thorough knowledge of the system design for two or more of the following.
    • Fixed & Mobile Radio (VHF-SHF)
    • Cable Carrier Systems (Metallic/Optical Fiber)
    • MUX Networks
    • Ethernet Networks
    • High Speed Digital Transmission
    • Power Line Carrier systems
    • Tele protection systems
  • Project, contract and maintenance management systems and tools.
  • Continuous improvement, training, and coaching techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering standards, regulations, and procedures applicable to the Section and Stream.
  • MS Office systems, Word, Excel & or Access. Ellipse and scheduling/work management systems
  • Be a team player and a role model to less experienced Communications Technician
