Communications Technician

We currently have multiple exciting opportunities for Intermediate and Advanced Skilled Communications Technician, on a Permanent Full-Time basis.

 

This role is based at our brand-new state-of-the-art South Metro Depot in Forrestdale, conveniently located next to Tonkin Highway. Spanning across 120,000 square meters, the depot offers an excellent on-site café, shuttle bus to-and-from the Cockburn Train Station, end of trip facilities including secure bicycle storage and freshening up rooms. About this role

 

As a Communication Technician, you will be required to apply specialist telecommunications technical knowledge and skills gained in the maintenance, operations, installation, commissioning and testing of Western Power telecommunications facilities / assets.

Provide, develop, design and research communications activities, prepare new product assessment reports and or conduct training and competency evaluations of field-based employees as required.


About you

 

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

 

  • Diploma in Electrotechnology / Electronics / Telecommunications or Radio / telecommunications Trade Certificate
  • At least 7+ years demonstrated technical experience in a telecommunication or related industry
  • Thorough knowledge of the system design for two or more of the following.
    • Fixed & Mobile Radio (VHF-SHF)
    • Cable Carrier Systems (Metallic/Optical Fiber)
    • MUX Networks
    • Ethernet Networks
    • High Speed Digital Transmission
    • Power Line Carrier systems
    • Tele protection systems
    • Supervisory systems
  • Project, contract and maintenance management systems and tools.
  • Continuous improvement, training, and coaching techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering standards, regulations, and procedures applicable to the Section and Stream.
  • MS Office systems, Word, Excel & or Access. Ellipse and scheduling/work management systems
  • Be a team player and a role model to less experienced Communications Technician
  • Be innovative and use appropriate technology to improve and manage the Telecommunications Networks
