Distribution Design Engineer – 4 Month Maximum Term / South Metro Depot

 

Join our team as a Distribution Design Engineer, where you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of the South West Interconnected System (SWIS). This role is responsible for delivering high-quality engineering assessments, investigations, and designs for Western Power and customer-connected facilities.

 

You’ll help drive efficiency, innovation, and reliability across the network—supporting safe, cost-effective solutions that minimise supply interruptions and improve outcomes for both customers and internal stakeholders.

 

This role is based at our brand-new state-of-the-art South Metro Depot in Forrestdale, conveniently located next to Tonkin Highway. Spanning across 120,000 square meters. With the latest infrastructure and technology, the depot empowers all employees to create that perfect work-life balance whilst operating in an inclusive and diverse workplace.

 

Your Role in Action  

 

  • Produce and/or check designs and estimates for projects encompassing materials, labour, sub-contract services and costing for work associated with the Distribution Network. This will include the provision of specialist technical information
  • Undertaking engineering investigations and to participate in process improvements
  • Provide technical support across other work groups
  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement
  • Document variations to procedures, programmes and processes
  • Complete all documentation, ordering of materials, entering and maintaining information in applicable computer systems
  • Undertake contract administration to ensure contractor compliance to specification and identify non-conformances of contractors. This will include reviewing designs, work performance, works programs and preparing reports
  • Respond to customer correspondence and answer questions from the general public, various Govt Dept’s and industry on quotes issued via DQM
  • Ensure compliance with all Western Power standard, quality, legal and contractual requirements as appropriate
  • Schedule and plan own daily and weekly allocated work in order to meet agreed targets

 

 What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Eligible for corporate membership of The Institution of Engineers, Australia
  • At least 4 – 6 years demonstrated engineering experience, preferably in an electrical utility
  • Experience in design management
  • Sound knowledge of engineering standards, regulations and procedures preferably within a Distribution network environment
  • Interaction with others requires understanding, influencing and supporting people, through applying technical knowledge or rational arguments
