Distribution Network Designer

Distribution Network Designer: Maximum Term ending June 20 2025 : South Metro Depot Forrestdale  

 

We are seeking a Distribution Network Designer to undertake estimation and complex technical tasks associated with the design, construction, and maintenance of Western Power or customer facilities connected to the Distribution Network.

 

This role is essential in fulfilling Western Power's regulatory obligation to provide a safe and reliable network, ensuring end-to-end delivery of design and construction within agreed timeframes to meet customer expectations. You will assist with investigations and support process improvement activities as required. Your expertise will be crucial in managing scope, quality, and stakeholder engagement while driving operational excellence in all aspects of the network. Your Role in Action  

 

  • Prepare accurate estimates for projects encompassing materials, labour, sub-contract services and costing for work associated with construction activities and commissioning on single/basic circuits and associated apparatus or services. This can include preparing basic designs, subject to checking and approval.
  • Complete all documentation, ordering of materials, entering and maintaining of information in applicable computer systems, ensuring business processes are adhered to.
  • Respond to correspondence and queries raised by customers, construction and maintenance crews and other stakeholders on quotes issued via DQM.
  • Ensure all variations to projects, procedures, programs and processes are documented.
  • Schedule and plan own daily and weekly allocated work in order to meet agreed targets.
  • Ensure compliance with all Western Power standard, quality, legal and contractual requirements

 

What Makes You a Great Fit 

 

  • Diploma / Advanced Diploma in a relevant electrical discipline
  • At least 3 to 4 years’ post qualification experience in distribution network related activities with a thorough knowledge of principles of the relevant discipline and a sound understanding of the methods and practices
  • Knowledge of Distribution Engineering standards, regulations, and procedures applicable to the Section and Stream is necessary.
  • Sound IT skills in required programs and systems
  • Have ability to complete project/assignment within specific guidelines.
  • Demonstrated skill in priority setting, activity planning and organizing.
  • Have skill in developing and maintaining work standards.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and conflict resolving skills.
