What Does an Electrician Do?
Electricians at Western Power install, maintain and repair the electrical systems that keep WA’s energy network running safely and reliably. They work across transmission and distribution assets, customer installations and critical infrastructure that delivers power to homes, businesses and communities.
As an Electrical Apprentice, you’ll learn to:
- Work safely and follow dynamic risk control procedures
- Install and assemble substation equipment for upgrades and new builds
- Maintain high voltage equipment and identify faults to support network reliability
- Conduct high voltage testing and interpret results to meet industry standards
- Understand how Western Power’s transmission and distribution networks operate
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, solving problems and learning how complex electrical systems operate in the real world.
About the Apprenticeship
This 4-year program combines:
- On-the-job training alongside experienced Electrical Tradespersons
- Classroom-based learning to develop technical skills
By the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll gain a nationally recognised trade qualification and be ready for a long-term career in the energy industry.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking motivated, safety-focused individuals who enjoy active work and want to build a meaningful career.
You’ll need to:
- Have completed Year 11 (including passes in English and Maths)
- Hold a WA ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
- Be 18+ by 9 February 2026
- Communicate well and work in a team
- Show strong work ethic and commitment to safety
- Be open to rotating between different WA depots
A Certificate III pre-apprenticeship is a bonus, but not essential.
What to Expect
The recruitment process includes:
- Psychometric testing and interview
- Literacy and numeracy assessment
- Assessment Centre (30 September – 3 October)
- Medical, drug and alcohol screening
