Principal Engineer Permanent Full Time / SMD Forrestdale
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to provide strategic and operational representation with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, while offering technical leadership and subject matter expertise in Customer Connection Services. This role involves shaping and influencing standards, policies, and work practices to ensure alignment with organisational goals and industry best practices.
As a key advisor, the Principal Engineer will provide technical input to risk management activities and support the development of robust mitigation strategies. Part of the role is to translate complex technical topics into business language. By combining technical expertise with strategic vision, this role is ensuring that data is transformed into actionable insights that enhances decision-making, optimisation of workflows and improve performance across the function. Collaborating closely with the Head of Function, Area Managers, and non-technical staff, you will offer expert consultation and advice to drive informed decision-making and operational excellence.

Your Role in Action
- Provide high level expertise and technical support, consultation, and assistance to Customer Connection Services
- Be a subject matter expert in end to end engineering and technical investigations. Make recommendations and implement long term strategic outcomes.
- Integrating assurance activity trends and findings into continuous improvement opportunities within the function
- Technical representation at Senior Management level to key stakeholders.
- Collaboration with other areas of the business and externally. Seeks the best outcomes for the business overall and engages with others to deliver collaboratively.
- Provide the core technical and engineering leadership and support for Customer Connections Services internal and external workforce.
- Understand and ensure adherence with relevant internal and external standards and regulations.
- Advance analytics, automation and strategic thinking and applying these to enhance business processes, optimise workstreams and reduce inefficiency.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- 15+ years of experience in engineering, with a strong background in Principal Electrical Engineering in complex environments.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering with Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or eligible for membership under Engineers Australia.
- Extensive knowledge of electrical power systems, grid connections, and relevant industry standards.
- Deep understanding of utility connection requirements, regulatory frameworks and compliance with codes for customer connections.
- Proven ability to liaise with stakeholders, ensuring technical excellence and optimal business outcomes.
- Skilled in coaching and mentoring, fostering technical growth within teams.
- Strong risk management, quality assurance, and business process knowledge to drive operational excellence.
