We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Substation Operations Technician at our South Metro Depot in Forrestdale on a permanent full-time basis.

 

About this role

 

As the Senior Substation Operations Technician, you will be accountable for the technical leadership, complex outage planning and coordination, at a high level, of the technical operations of the Western Power Network and high-end Distribution network to ensure the safety operation of the network, minimisation of significant fines the business could attract by the network not being managed correctly and the significant negative attention that it could receive from the media and our owner.

 

As well as additional responsibility to the Executive EMT and having the key accountability of managing network crisis over extended time frames on behalf of the area, coordinating relevant resources as required to ensure the safe return to normal operation of the network.

 

About you

 

We’re seeking someone from within our workforce with experience and attributes that include:

 

  • Possess Cert III (ESI Distribution / Transmission Overhead / Power Systems Distribution Cable Jointing) and/or Electrical Trade Certificate, and/or Current WA Electrical Workers License endorsed for Electrical Fitting
  • Current Electrical Workers License - essential
  • A Certificate as a WorkPlace Assessor
  • All Western Power Switching Levels including 0(eNAR)
  • Western Power Switching Levels LOU, HOU, ZS, TL, TS
  • Secondary Access Authorisation
  • Demonstrated ability in applying continuous improvement methodologies
  • Proven experience in managing high level negotiations and conflict resolution.
  • Experience dealing with external customers
  • Project, contract and maintenance management systems and tools
  • Resource and Financial Management practices and procedures.
  • Must have excellent report writing skills and be able to communicate at all levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and provide technical leadership with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • MS Office systems, Word, Excel, Outlook and Access. Ellipse, EDM, and other specialist applications
  • Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’
  • A minimum of 15 to 20 years comprehensive and broad technical expertise demonstrating technical leadership (industry expert in field) and expert guidance within a particular discipline, preferably in the Networks business
  • Hold all appropriate industry licences or certificates of competency especially substation inspection, testing, maintenance and repair
  • Have solid experience in coordination and technical supervision of others

 

Comprehensive and broad expertise in the following:

 

  • Networks construction, maintenance and operations field practices and procedures
  • Standards and regulations applicable to the section and stream specifically primary assets
  • Safety policies and procedures, particularly operating field practices and procedures applying to the power system
  • Disciplines associated with transmission facilities, including substation, protection, SCADA & communications
  • Solid knowledge of scheduling and project management tools and processes
  • Engineering standards, regulations and procedures applicable to the Section and Stream
  • Sound knowledge of Secondary systems and isolation procedures
